Athens Borough Athens Borough, located in Athens PA 18810. The Borough of Athens was incorporated on March 29th, 1831. Athens Borough provides many services to the community.

It consists of 1.7 square miles; 1,070 acres and is situated between Susquehanna and Chemung Rivers. The Borough maintains 12.91 miles of sewer and 13.13 miles of highway. Athens Borough's governing body is made up of an elected Mayor and seven Council members who have the responsibility of decision making for the town. rs at 8:00AM to 4:00PM Monday through Friday. The Borough retains a full time Police Department consisting of a Policy Chief/Zoning Office, three full-time Patrol Officers and three part-time Patrol officers. The Athens community is served by two all-volunteer Fire Departments (Diahoga Hose Company No. 6 and Protection Hose Company No. 1) with approximately 80 volunteer firefighters and an EMA Director. Athens Borough provides Police and Fire protection twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. The Public Works Department consisting of a Leader and two Class A Operators is responsible for street repairs, sewer repairs, building repairs, equipment and vehicle repairs as well as ground maintenance. The Borough manager/Street Superintendent supervises all Municipal department and projects, serves the Athens Borough citizens in all aspects relating to the Borough and maintains good relations with the news media and community. Athens Borough Secretary-Treasurer implements and maintains accounting procedures as set by Council, maintains responsibility of the Borough's revenues and expenditures and processes/files all documents relating to the Borough. The Administrative Assistant assists in answering inquiries from the Public and maintains the filing system for the Police Department. The Athens Borough council and Municipals employees thrive on providing supreme service to the Athens community. This town wouldn't be what it is without the respect, support and dedication of the community members.

BUSINESS DISTRICT SNOW REMOVAL:
The Public Works department will continue snow removal from the downtown business district in the early morning hours on Wednesday January 28.

Snow removal will continue on Thursday January 29 .

Reminder to all that sidewalks shall be cleared from ice and snow within 24 hours of the end of the storm.

Snow Emergency

Type of Incident: Public Service Announcement
Date of Release: 01/22/2026

Narrative:
Athens Borough Mayor Todd Babcock has issued a snow emergency for Athens Borough starting at 7:00AM Sunday, January 25, 2026 until 12:00PM Monday, January 26, 2026.
Mayor Babcock requests that all residents please remove all vehicles that are parked on all Borough streets.
During any snowfall where the snow remains on the street that requires it to be plowed and the Mayor declares a snow emergency, it shall be unlawful at any time for any reason to park a motor vehicle or to allow a motor vehicle to remain parked anywhere on any street that hinders the removal of snow.
Said prohibition shall apply to all streets of the Borough. Travel on roadways within Athens Borough during a snow emergency is restricted.

REMINDER: A couple of reminders regarding winter storm:
per Borough Ordinance, all snow and ice must be removed from sidewalks within 24 hours from the end of the storm.
No vehicles shall be parked on any street if the public works department is plowing.
