Change of plans, but the glow must go on! ✨

The Flight of the Fireflies Lantern Parade has been rescheduled to *this* Saturday, March 14th. The extra week just means more time to perfect those DIY lanterns and get your battery-powered lights ready to shine! 🏮

Our updated gameplan: we’ll still be gathering in Dudley Park, but due to the time change this past weekend, we will begin gathering at 7:00 PM, with the parade kicking off at approximately 8:00 PM.

It’s going to be a beautiful night to finally get the community together and light up those winding paths. We can't wait to see your imagination on full display. A little rain can't dim our light so let's make this rescheduled celebration the brightest one yet!

Sharing an important update related to winter weather and temporary closures impacting Southeast Clarke Park. See the post below for more information.

In anticipation of the winter storm and its effects, Athens-Clarke County Manager Bob Cowell has issued a Declaration of Local Emergency. As a result, ACCGov offices and workstations will close for non-emergency personnel beginning on Sat., Jan. 24 at noon through Mon., Jan. 26. All offices, departments, and buildings will be closed to the public during this time.

Updates to the following specific department services are also in effect:
- Animal Services - The Animal Shelter will be closed on Sat., Jan. 24 through Mon., Jan. 26 for drop-offs, adoptions, and visits. Emergency services will be available by calling 911.
- Leisure Services - Parks and facilities will close on Sat., Jan. 24 at noon through Mon., Jan. 26.
- Updated 1/25 at 3:37 PM - Solid Waste - Collections in the Central Business District will be suspended beginning Sat., Jan. 24 at 5:00 PM for the duration of the closure. Trash and recycling collection services for commercial curbside, front end loader, and roll-off containers will be postponed until Tuesday, January 27. The CHaRM and Landfill will be closed on Sat., Jan. 24 at noon through Mon., Jan. 26.
- Updated 1/25 at 10:54 PM: Transit - Bus service is suspended through noon on Mon., Jan. 26. Conditions will be reassessed on Monday prior to resuming service. Please check the myStop app prior to travel for the latest updates.
- Updated 1/25 at 12:08 PM - Courts - The Athens-Clarke County Courthouse will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26. Filings may still be made remotely with the Clerks of the Courts through the following websites:
- Superior Court - Civil cases: www.peachcourt.com
- Superior Court - Criminal cases: www.ez-filing.net/Georgia
- Juvenile Court: All after-hours procedures involving CHINS, delinquency, and DFACS matters shall remain in full force and effect.
- For emergency matters that require court involvement, or for the need to speak to a court official on an emergency basis, call the Athens-Clarke County Clerk of Court, Elisa Zarate, at 762-400-6497 or the Athens-Clarke County Sheriff's Office Courthouse Division at 706-613-3250.
- All court deadlines falling on Monday, January 26 are hereby suspended, tolled, or extended until Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

✨ The Lexington Road playground here at Southeast Clarke Park is open and ready for play!

The updated play area includes new equipment, swings, and shade to help keep playtime fun and comfortable. Stop by and check it out during your next park visit.

🌟 Playground Update here at Southeast Clarke Park

Our smaller playground here on the Lexington Road side in between the ball fields is getting a fresh new look! It’s currently closed for the next few weeks while crews install a brand-new play space with swings, shade umbrellas, and more fun features on the way.

The World of Wonder Playground on our Whit Davis side is still open and ready for play. Come enjoy the big slides and wide open space.

Facility Update!

The small playground, near the concession stand, on the Lexington Road side of Southeast Clarke Park is being replaced!

The playground is now closed and will remain so for approximately three weeks. The new playground will include several new features, such as swings and shade umbrellas.

Please remember the World of Wonder Playground, located on the Whit Davis Road side of the park, remains open and unaffected by this construction.

The World of Wonder Playground will be temporarily closed on Thursday, October 2 for some concrete work.

The playground will reopen once the work is complete. Thank you for your patience as we make improvements! 💛
