We’re excited to announce the launch of the new Community Planning Certificate Program!

This program helps local planning staff and appointed officials strengthen their skills in planning, zoning and public engagement, then put that learning to work through a capstone project addressing a real community challenge.

Upcoming Planning & Zoning courses continue this fall, with the first online capstone seminar set for October 22.

Yesterday, members of the August 2026 Gwinnett EXCEL cohort did the teaching!

Participants explored how different authors distinguish between the public and private sectors, then taught those ideas to one another using real-world examples. The discussion led to a bigger question: How do we measure success in the public sector?

They shared good examples, thoughtful questions and a great conversation about what it means for local government to serve and perform well.

EXCEL is a management development program for current and future managers facilitated by UGA Carl Vinson Institute of Government in partnership with Gwinnett County Government.

Participants in last week's Gwinnett Internal Management Academy practiced building trust and momentum without a formal chain of command through role-playing local government scenarios.

The academy is a collaborative executive leadership program in partnership with Gwinnett County Government.

Congratulations to the 34 new grads of our Succeeding as a Supervisor course!

This five-day program equips participants with knowledge and skills needed to be effective supervisors. It's for new supervisors; employees who aren't yet in the role but want to develop those skills; and long-term supervisors who haven't had formal training.

Thank you, Jackson County Georgia Government, for hosting us at the Jackson County Administrative Building in Jefferson!

Wow! Earlier this summer, 18 members of Gwinnett EXCEL Cohort 1 gathered at the Helping Mamas Inc warehouse to sort donations they collected across 13 Gwinnett County Government departments.

The team donated and sorted a whopping 15,428 items! Between donation drives and onsite volunteering, department participation rate was 100%. Their thoughtfully designed service learning project was a tremendous success!
