Join your neighbors and ACC staff to help spruce-up Boulevard Woods Park on Sat., April 29, from 10 am to noon.

We'll be doing some trail work, drainage maintenance, leaf and limb gathering, planting, and hazard removal. ACC Trails and Open Space staff will provide tools, PPE, instruction, water, and snacks. Wear your work clothes. Bring a water bottle.

In part, we’ll be sprucingup the park in advance of a public poetry reading by Athens’ own poet laureate Jeff Fallis that starts at 2 pm at the park.

We plan to have two more work sessions at Blvd Woods this summer, probably one at the end of summer and one in the fall, so please keep an eye out for those, as well.

Did you know April is poetry month? We've been celebrating with Athens' poet laureate, Jeff Fallis, and there are some great events still in store! Meet Trail Team 6. This group of experienced trail builders volunteer every Friday to improve ACC trails. Re-cutting tread, eliminating trip hazards, fixing drainages, sighting and constructing new routes are all part of the job. In the past year, they have made significant trail improvements at Ben Burton Park, Sandy Creek Park, Memorial Park, Dudley Park, Sandy creek Nature Center, Virginia Walker Park, Cook’s Trail, Boulevard Woods and Southeast Clarke Park. Big thanks to Bob, Jess, Jeff, Leo, Jonathan, and Mike! Team work makes the dream work.

The nine-member Athens Community Corps (A-Corps) team is working in Boulevard Woods Park this week. The team is removing and treating invasive plants along trails and in some of more open sections of the wooded parts of the park.

A-Corps is a pilot program of Athens-Clarke County government that brings together participants for 11 months of work on community projects, career exploration and professional development--and pays them full-time wages with benefits.

Other A-Corps community projects have included work at Dudley Park, MLK Greenway Extension, Sandy Creek and ACC's water treatment plant.

Thanks A-Corps! We can use all the help we can get dealing with invasive plants at the park.

Action shots from today's MLK Day of Service work at the park. We hauled out debris, picked-up trash, shoveled out sediment from a stormwater channel, removed vines from trees, repaired water diversions along the trail, and pulled weeds and lots of glass bottles from the ground. Thanks to everyone who helped out at park, and to those who organized all the service events throughout the county. Good work!

Once again Boulevard Woods Park is a site for ACC's MLK Day of Service. Come work with us Monday, January 18 from 9 am to 11 am. This year we have slots for 10 volunteers, and there are some slots still open. Sign up here:

Volunteers will help in a variety of park chores, including picking-up litter and plant debris, removing weeds in planting beds, and repairing parts of the trail. This site is family-friendly, ages 10+. Bring a filled reusable water bottle and hand sanitizer. Wear long pants and close-toed shoes. Please come dressed to get dirty.

COVID 19 Details:
--All participants are required to wear face coverings.
--All participants are expected to maintain 6 feet of distance from other volunteers who live outside of their household.

If you are driving, please park on Boulevard and walk to the park at 298 Barber St.

Hey, the “Woods” are back!

A while ago, a truck scraped the “woods” off the Boulevard Woods Park signage on the street-facing granite wall and damaged the bollards in front of the park. Both have been very nicely repaired.
