WTF🫢 Where is this from? and WHERE SHOULD IT ACTUALLY GO⁉️

At one of our drop sites, we were surprised to find a perfectly good dog/play pen enclosure🐶

☎️For most pet items, we would recommend calling animal services or a humane society to see if it would be an item they need or would use

UPDATE: We will have tool sharpening this Sunday as well!

As you come out of your lazy hazy summer (well, we hope at least part of it was lazy...) and enter into the hectic pace of fall, why not check one thing off your list this weekend? Everyone has that *one* item that they have been meaning to get fixed, and yet is somehow still sitting in your closet waiting... and waiting. How about you bring that item to our amazing fixers and see what they can revive. Remember, fixes are FREE! While you are there, grab a Jittery Joes' coffee and pull up a chair to watch and learn how one fixes said item.

This month we will have fixers on hand that can tackle clothing, small appliances, lamps/electronics, computers, bikes AND tool sharpening. Join us THIS Sunday August 23rd, 2-5 at the Solid Waste Office.

WTF⁉️⁉️ Where is this from ❓

We do appreciate the attempt at recycling... this is not exactly what we had in mind😬

Curbside recycling should be at least the size of a post-it note, not bagged, and loose... which admittedly the roll cart in the dumpster does fit that criteria🫠

So how big is too big🤨
For bulky plastics, even 5-gallon buckets are too big to be put in curbside recycling. This is so that our compactors are easily able to compress the load. Also for our workers at the MRF to easily remove non-recyclable items from the belt easily.

Again, help us keep our people SAFE and our equipment undamaged🙏♻‼👏

Our V**e Recycling Program has been active for a year🎉♻👏‼

📌As a reminder, here are the locations you can recycle your v**es at!

If you are a shop in Athens that sells v**e products and you would like to join this program, email [email protected]📩📫

Why are we doing this:
It all comes back to batteries. Most most v**es contain a lithium-ion battery, and with improper disposal of v**es, this can become very dangerous, very quickly. When batteries are punctured, crushed, or heated the internal components of the battery become unstable and are more likely to ignite, explode, or catch fire. This puts many people at risk for harm or exposure to carcinogenic chemicals.

TLDR: V**e has battery; battery can hurt innocent people; just give your v**e to US!!

WTF‼‼ Where's this from🤔

This mule mix keg was found downtown on top of our recycling can... not inside,, probably because it doesn't fit (great sign that it should go somewhere else!) smh😑

Most keg containers can be returned to the supplier or they will provide specific instructions on how to dispose of it since it is PRESSURIZED. 👏‼ When pressurized containers are put into compactors, they explode💥

You know where you can bring pressurized container? Say it with me now: CHaRM♻‼
Please keep our Solid Waste workers safe, put your waste where it is supposed to go🙏

Work hard, party hard, and recycle more👏🎉♻

❌💥Don't risk an explosion!💥❌ Bring pressurized containers to CHaRM.

When our staff pick up your trash and recycling, the truck compacts it to make space. The compactor in rear-loader garbage trucks applies about 2,000 pounds of force per square inch- enough to break open a pressurized container. When that happens, these containers explode.

Never put these high-pressure containers in the bin:
🔥Nitrous oxide (nitro) tanks
🔥Helium tanks
🔥Camping fuel canisters
🔥Fire extinguishers
🔥Propane cylinders
🔥Other compressed gas containers

Instead, bring them to the Center for Hard-to-Recycle Materials for proper handling and recycling.

Heads up to businesses- if we find these in your trash or recycling, we will NOT collect them. Businesses found with pressurized containers in their trash or recycling containers will be fined and held responsible for any damages incurred (Sec. 5-2-11.) Save yourself the headache and bring these straight to CHaRM!

As PlasticFreeJuly comes to an end, remember the habits you can bring into other months of the year!✅📅

Refuse single-use plastics🙅
Reuse items you already have🔁
Reduce the amount of plastic in your life🌎

Small improvements make BIG differences👏‼️

Pressurized containers holding gases like nitrous oxide, oxygen, and carbon dioxide are a major hazard when placed in your recycling or trash. NEVER put them in the bin- that's how accidents like this happen.

Help us protect our staff and community. Bring pressurized containers to the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials for safe recycling. You could save a life.
