A SCAM HAS HIT SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS like Facebook and YouTube that falsely use the Habitat for Humanity name and logo to offer "free" roofing or repair services which do not exist. These ads direct people to non-Habitat websites to collect personal information, which puts you at risk for identity theft.

Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliates are actively working to get these fraudulent posts taken down. But scammers are constantly creating new methods to steal your money and information, so be vigilant and aware of where you’re putting your personal information.

If you have questions about our mission and services, please visit our website: AthensHabitat.com.

Thank you for helping us protect our community and our mission.

THANK YOU, HOLY CROSS LUTHERAN, for the generous donation of this year's Lenten offering toward the Lydia's Second Home project co-sponsored by Lydia's Place. With this gift, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Athens GA (ELCA) is helping to assure that young adults in our area who come from a background of homelessness can build a life for themselves by earning a college degree, which drastically reduces their odds of relapsing into homelessness or becoming incarcerated or chronically unemployed. This contribution will pay benefits for the community year after year for decades to come. Thank you!

IT MIGHT NOT LOOK LIKE MUCH NOW, but this site will be the location of 15 houses comprising Lydia's Second Home, where young adults from a background of homelessness can live while earning college degrees to transform their lives. Publix Super Markets Charities will contribute $75,000 toward the foundations of these buildings, which will be constructed using insulating concrete forms (ICFs) made in Georgia, and local concrete produced in a low-water process with recycled aggregate and stabilized with repurposed coal ash which keeps it out of the air and water. Thank you, Publix, for helping Habitat to build our community!

FOR SOME, VOLUNTEERING is a now-and-then kind of thing; for others, it's a mission, a way of life. Today we celebrate Marion Ivey, a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church, who's been working with Habitat for the past three decades here in Athens. Thank you, Marion, and Prince Avenue Baptist Church for your contributions to building our community!

THANKS TO DREW BUTLER for kickstarting the effort to have furnishings, kitchenware, and other items from the old Hotel Abacus donated to local nonprofits including Habitat, Atlanta Mission, Food Bank of NE Georgia, and Advantage Behavioral Health Systems. This donation highlights how businesses can help build our community while reducing waste, and maybe getting a little tax break in the deal. Thanks, Drew, and everyone involved in this significant donation for your generosity and vision!

Before the redevelopment of the Hotel Abacus property in Athens, former UGA kicker Drew Butler led efforts to donate items to local nonprofits.
