Four years in, the Atlanta City Council & State Delegation Legislative Reception has truly become a signature moment for bringing our leaders together. Each year, it strengthens the relationships that move Atlanta forward.

At Atlantic South Group, we recognize and celebrate the power of transformational leadership. Today, we joined leaders across Atlanta in honoring Former Mayor Shirley Clarke Franklin, the first African American woman to lead a major southern city.

With the renaming of Central Ave to Shirley Clarke Franklin Blvd and the dedication of a park in her honor, the city has forever enshrined her contributions to public service, infrastructure, and community advancement.

We salute Mayor Franklin for her dedication and vision that helped shape the Atlanta we know today. Her legacy is a guiding light for those committed to public service and civic leadership.

📣 HISTORY MADE! 🚀

Yesterday, we celebrated the Inaugural Big Brothers Big Sisters Day at the Georgia State Capitol—a powerful day of advocacy, mentorship, and leadership! Affiliates from Dalton, Macon-Bibb, Columbus, and across Georgia came together to champion mentorship and expand opportunities for our youth.

We had the honor of meeting with Rep. Matt Hatchett, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, and Sen. Chuck Payne, Vice-Chair of the Senate Education & Youth Committee and Chair of the Veterans, Military & Homeland Security Committee. Their commitment to Georgia’s future was inspiring!

A highlight of the day? Our Littles serving as Pages for the Lt. Governor in the Georgia Senate! Seeing them witness leadership in action was unforgettable. Plus, we had amazing support from legislators who stopped by to speak during our program and reception.

Leading up to this event, we also had the opportunity to speak with Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger about the importance of mentorship across Georgia.

A HUGE thank you to all of our BBBS affiliates, leaders, and supporters for making this day a success. Special shoutout to Denese Sampson from the Lt. Governor’s Office for her dedication and for serving as a Big herself!

Mentorship changes lives, and we’re just getting started. Let’s keep pushing to expand opportunities for every child in Georgia! 💙

Today, we join Georgians and the nation in mourning the loss of the Honorable Jimmy Carter, the 76th Governor of Georgia and the 39th President of the United States. President Carter’s legacy of service, humility, and unwavering commitment to humanity will continue to inspire generations to come. His work through the Carter Center to advance peace, democracy, and health equity around the world reflects the very best of Georgia’s values and leadership.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Carter family and all who loved him. May we honor his extraordinary life by continuing the work to create a better world for all.
