2026 Rural Members’ Dues and Fire Department information.
2026 Rural Member Dues (property owners outside the City of Atlanta) were mailed January 2, 2029. The payments are due by January 31, 2025. Your membership along with the City of Atlanta’s portion (property within the city limits is covered by a fee paid by the City of Atlanta) is the primary source of funding for your protection from fire damage to home and property. We strive to provide the best fire protection possible while keeping membership costs low. Rural Memberships are $80 (year Jan-Dec) for your primary property and everything that adjoins it, with additional non-adjoining properties charged at an additional $40 (year Jan – Dec).
The billing information comes from the Macon County Assessor’s office and the Macon County On-line GIS mapping.
If you have multiple properties under different names recorded with the Macon County Assessor’s office that may be why you receive separate billings for each of the properties. We encourage you to make sure your address, name and properties are current with the Macon County Assessor’s office to avoid billing errors.
If you choose to not remit dues the AFVD will still respond to you as a non-member. However, the charges for such services, as allowed by Missouri Statutes, are substantial and are as follows: $100 to respond, $500 an hour for fire emergencies. Since these charges do not apply to homes within the City of Atlanta, rural membership is encouraged.
Our volunteers do great work; they devote their valuable time away from family during all hours of the day and night, utilizing heavily used equipment at a very low overhead cost. We work hard to keep our costs low while providing the best fire protection we possibly can. With the rising costs of operating and insurance we are holding our annual fee at this time and attempting to offset the rising costs with grants and donations when possible.
The Board of Directors has implemented a negligent fire fee in regard to out-of-control burns that started out as a controlled burn. If a controlled burn area is found out of control by not being properly supervised or the area was being burned during high fire danger, the Fire Chief may, at their discretion, deem the property owner negligent for fire safety. Therefore, a fee of $50 per hour will be charged to the property owner regardless of membership. Should you be planning a control burn we recommend you contact Emergency Services at (660) 385-1911 Option 1 to report your control burn to prevent dispatching a fire department when not needed. Should the fire department be dispatched to a control burn that was not reported to Emergency Services you may be billed for a dispatch of fire department equipment and personnel.
