🩺 Taking care of those who take care of our community.

This week, South Fulton Fire Rescue personnel completed Phase 1 of their annual physical examinations, an important part of helping our firefighters stay healthy, prepared, and ready to serve.

The demands of the fire service require both physical and mental readiness, and routine health screenings play an important role in identifying potential concerns early and supporting the long-term wellness of our personnel.

Because being ready to answer the call starts with taking care of yourself. 🚒💪🏾

Being ready to serve starts long before the emergency. It starts with dedication, discipline, and a commitment to physical and mental wellness. đź’Şđźš’

On Saturday, July 18, members of South Fulton Fire Rescue proudly represented our department in the First Responders Strength Challenge during the 2026 Lee Haney Games.

Competing in events including a truck push, tire flip relay, pull-up relay, and bench press, our firefighters demonstrated the physical and mental resilience required to perform one of the toughest jobs there is.

Following the competition, Lt. Roman Goodrum and Lt. Reginald Davis reflected on the experience and shared why firefighter fitness remains an important part of serving our community.

For Lt. Goodrum, firefighter fitness goes far beyond lifting weights.
“You can have all the strength, but if you run out of gas, it’s no good. You have to have the endurance to do our job for 24 hours—sometimes even 48.”

Lt. Davis emphasized that staying active is about much more than competition.
“Stay active. It’ll save your life. It also creates a bond with your coworkers outside of the shift, and you learn from one another along the way.”

We are proud to recognize the members who represented South Fulton Fire Rescue at this year’s competition:
• Roman Goodrum
• Nathaniel Artis
• Charles Swanson
• Gregory Terrell
• Thomas Friend
• Grant Langston
• Jamel Parham
• Reginald Davis
• Mikel Tito-Hernandez
• Gabriel Blackman

Thank you for proudly representing South Fulton Fire Rescue and demonstrating the dedication, teamwork, and professionalism that define our department. Your commitment to health and fitness helps ensure you’re always ready to answer the call and serve our community.
