Georgia is taking another important step toward expanding forensic restoration services and addressing the growing demand across our state.

Yesterday, DBHDD broke ground on Georgia’s second Jail Restoration Center, a new 40-bed facility on the campus of East Central Regional Hospital in Augusta.

Supported by a $20.7 million investment from Governor Brian Kemp and the Georgia General Assembly, this facility will build on the success of our first Jail Restoration Center in Dodge County, helping more individuals receive court-ordered competency restoration services while easing the strain on local jails and courts.

This is another important piece of Georgia’s ongoing work to expand capacity, strengthen services and help individuals move through the forensic restoration process more efficiently.

🌟We are pleased to announce that Ashleigh Caseman will serve as Executive Director of Division of Developmental Disabilities and Medicaid Coordination at DBHDD, succeeding Ron Wakefield following his retirement later this year.

Ashleigh will step into this expanded role next month, where she’ll work with Ron to ensure a smooth transition ahead of his retirement.

Ashleigh is no stranger to DBHDD or to the work of our IDD Division. Throughout her career, she has taken on increasingly complex leadership roles spanning waiver services, Medicaid, compliance, and grants. Most recently, she has served as Director of the Office of Medicaid Coordination and Health System Innovation.

We are excited to have Ashleigh in this role as we continue to strengthen Georgia’s IDD system. Congratulations, Ashleigh!

Earlier this week, we had the privilege to attend the ribbon cutting for Community Service Board of Middle Georgia's Quentin’s Place Behavioral Health Crisis Center. This crisis stabilization unit is a 24-hour residential program serving adults experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges that require intervention, stabilization, or detoxification.
