Behind many firefighter trainings, emergency scenes, and community events there is a dedicated group helping keep operations running smoothly - the Milton Fire Corps Volunteers.

They support Milton Fire-Rescue in many ways, including assisting during live fire trainings, helping at emergency scenes, supporting rehabilitation efforts for firefighters, and lending a hand at community events throughout the year.

Now, they’ll be even better equipped for the job thanks to a full set of new PPE made possible through a grant recently received from Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency (AFCEMA).

The new gear includes tactical fleece jackets, waterproof pants, and gloves designed to help Fire Corps volunteers stay warm, dry, protected, and ready to assist in all kinds of weather conditions.

“This gear is a huge upgrade for our team,” said Jon Ng, Milton Fire Corps Coordinator. “It helps our volunteers stay comfortable and protected in all kinds of conditions so we can stay focused on supporting the department and serving the community.”

A big thank you to AFCEMA for helping make this possible and supporting the people who help support our first responders every day.

Training doesn’t stop when the shift ends. Our firefighters regularly seek out opportunities beyond the station walls to sharpen their skills, challenge themselves, and bring that knowledge back home to serve the Milton community even better.

Recently, five Milton firefighters attended the Critical Thinking VES (Vent, Enter, Search) class at the Metro Atlanta Firefighter Conference (MAFFC) - an intensive two-day live-fire training designed to challenge firefighters to adapt, problem solve, and work through changing fireground conditions.

The course covered ladder raises and placement, forcible entry, thermal imaging camera use, and multiple search techniques. What made this class especially valuable was the constantly changing conditions and unexpected challenges built into each scenario. This pushed crews to think outside the box while staying on the mission: locating victims and getting them out safely.

Representing Milton Fire were firefighters Tim Brown and Sam Hiatt, FAOs Wesley Korsch and Tanner Herron, and Captain Roberto Sanchez. We are proud of their commitment to continuing education, teamwork, and bringing advanced training back to our department and community.

This Memorial Day, we proudly honored and remembered the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Members of our Fire Department were privileged to take part in the community’s Presentation of Color ceremony, standing alongside fellow first responders, veterans, and residents in remembrance and gratitude. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

It’s fire hydrant checking season.

Over the past several weeks and some time to come, Milton firefighters have been and will be canvassing the city with one focus: making sure every hydrant is working and working well. So if you see them in your neighborhood, no cause for alarm. Rather, you can feel more assured that firefighters will be in better position to fight a fire should there be an actual alarm.

Checking the hydrants involves inspecting, greasing, flushing, gathering pressure readings, and even painting them. The flushing part may be the most noticeable. The high-velocity flow of water can rustle up small particles of mineral deposits, organic matter, and sand; that, in turn, can lead to people’s tap water temporarily looking more brown or tea-colored.

This whole annual operation is part of Milton Fire-Rescue’s efforts to be proactive and prepared. And that ties into our commitment to do all we can to best protect our community and its property.

We wrapped up the school year at Birmingham Falls Elementary’s Touch-A-Truck event, and wow, did the questions keep coming!

Students got an up-close look at Engine 43 and kept our C-shift crew on their toes with some seriously impressive curiosity, like how heavy is the truck, why there are chainsaws among the tools on the engine, do firefighters carry extra oxygen for other firefighters, and can the ladder reach the moon? (We wish!)

It's safe to say that the crew had an absolute blast sharing what we do and meeting some future firefighters. Thanks for having us, Birmingham Falls Elementary School - what a great way to close out the school year!

Have a safe and fun summer!

Best way to start the day? Walking to school with our community! We loved spending this morning at the final Walk to School event of the year at Crabapple Crossing ES – lots of smiles, high-fives, and photos. Always glad to team up with our Milton Police Department friends to be part of such a fun send-off to the school year.
