Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to fully restore services at the Merk Miles Citizens Convenience Center. We’re pleased to share that the location is resuming regular service as operational capabilities allow.

Here’s what you need to know before you visit:

Tuesday-Friday: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
Saturday last customer: 2:45 p.m.
To help ensure you’re served, please plan to arrive before the last-customer time on Saturday. Arriving early will help us serve you as efficiently as possible.

REMINDER: Controlled Blasting Scheduled on Demooney Road Until Sept. 13

Residents and businesses in the vicinity of 4390 Demooney Road, including the area near The Broadwell, are advised that approved intermittent blasting activities are scheduled from now until Sept.13 as part of an ongoing construction project in the area.

Location: 4390 Demooney Road – The Broadwell
Timing: Blasting operations will occur intermittently
What to Expect: Residents may experience loud noises, brief ground vibrations, and increased construction activity in the surrounding area.

All blasting operations have been approved and will be conducted in accordance with applicable safety regulations under the supervision of qualified professionals.

Residents are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the area and follow all posted traffic signage. We appreciate your patience and understanding as this work progresses.

Temporary Collection Restrictions at Merk Miles
FACILITY UPDATE — PLEASE SHARE

Until further notice, the City of South Fulton Merk Miles Citizens Convenience Center is operating under temporary collection restrictions because both compactors are out of service.

Residents ONLY may bring:

Recycling
Small items for collection like trash or electronics
Not accepted at this time:

Commercial traffic
Trucks or trailers
Furniture
Large or oversized items​

These restrictions are effective immediately and will remain in place until the compactors are repaired and returned to service.

Please help us keep the facility operating safely and efficiently by not bringing prohibited loads during this temporary period.

The City will provide an update when normal collection resumes. Please check back periodically for updates.

South Fulton Residents: Now is your opportunity to weigh in on the City’s proposed FY2027 budget.

The upcoming public hearings are the City’s formal process for residents to learn more about the proposed budget, ask questions and participate in the conversation before final adoption.

Under the theme, “Let’s Build: We Are Under Construction,” the FY2027 budget focuses on building on the City’s progress while investing in its future.

Some of the proposed budget highlights include:
- No change to the millage rate
- Expansion of the Business Licensing Team
- New homeowner housing assistance
- 3% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for firefighters
- Continued investments in parks, facilities and infrastructure
- Initiatives aimed at improving government efficiency, community collaboration, financial stability and quality of life

FY2027 BUDGET PUBLIC HEARINGS
First Public Hearing: Tuesday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m.
Final Public Hearing & Budget Adoption: Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
City Hall: 5440 Fulton Industrial Blvd., South Fulton, GA 30336

A City Council Work Session will also be held at 4 p.m. on August 25.

The decisions made through the FY2027 budget will help shape City services, programs and investments in the year ahead.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will close multiple lanes on I-285 this weekend as part of the ongoing I-285 Westside Rebuild project.

From 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21, through 5 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24:

- Two left lanes of I-285 Northbound will close between Langford Parkway (Exit 5) and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (Exit 9).
- Two right lanes of I-285 Southbound will close between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (Exit 9) and Langford Parkway (Exit 5).

UPDATE: Cascade Ramp Closure and Detour
The Cascade Ramp will also be closed this weekend. Motorists should follow the posted detour, obey traffic-control signs and use caution when traveling through the area.

Drivers should expect delays, allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes.

PLEASE NOTE: A full closure of I-285 is planned for Aug. 28–31 between Cascade Road and Langford Parkway, weather permitting.
