In 2005, the Parole Board and Department of Corrections combined their offices of victim services to form the Corrections and Parole Board Office of Victim Services (OVS). This afforded both agencies the opportunity to accommodate victims and provide victims with the highest possible level of customer service. In 2015, the office started serving the newly created Georgia Department of Community Su

pervision and changed its name to the Georgia Office of Victim Services to expand its reach to the community. The Office of Victim Services works with victims and/or their families to answer questions about parole, to ensure their views and concerns reach the Board Members prior to any parole decision, and to keep them notified of activity on their case. All letters and contacts with the office are made a permanent and confidential part of the parole file on the offender.

✨ Here's what we've been up to lately! ✨

Our team has been busy connecting with partners, expanding our knowledge, and strengthening our commitment to serving crime victims across Georgia.

🤝 We recently had the opportunity to present at the Coweta Circuit Domestic Violence Task Force Meeting, where we shared information about the Georgia Office of Victim Services and the resources available to victims navigating the post-conviction process.

🎉 We also participated in the "Parole Probation" Resource Fair for the State Board of Pardons and Paroles and the Department of Community Supervision, connecting with staff, sharing resources, and increasing awareness of the services available through our office.

📚To wrap it up, a few of our team members attended the 52nd Annual NOVA Training Conference, where we gained valuable insights, learned from victim service professionals across the country, and brought back ideas to better support the survivors we serve.

Every conversation, partnership, and learning opportunity helps us better serve victims and survivors. Thank you to everyone who welcomed us. We look forward to continuing this important work together.

Disability Pride Month is a time to recognize the strength, resilience, and contributions of people with disabilities while promoting inclusion, accessibility, and respect for every individual.

People with disabilities experience crime at disproportionately higher rates and often face additional barriers when seeking safety, justice, and support. Every survivor deserves to be heard, believed, and provided with services that are accessible, trauma-informed, and victim-centered.

At the Georgia Office of Victim Services, we are committed to ensuring that all victims have equitable access to information, advocacy, and support throughout the post-conviction process.

Let's work together to build communities where everyone is valued, empowered, and able to live with dignity.

Happy 4th of July from your favorite employee at the Georgia Office of Victim Services ( )! 🫡

If you look closely at this image, you will see a beautiful American flag. If you look closer, you’ll see the real star of government operations: me, my official badge, and a tongue-out smile guaranteed to lower your cortisol levels.

While you guys are firing up the grills, I’m out here reminding everyone what is all about, passion, dedication, and providing a furry shoulder to lean on during life's toughest moments. I take my job as a comfort canine very seriously. (The belly rubs are just a standard government benefit).

Did you know? 🤔❓

The Georgia Office of Victim Services was created with one goal in mind: making it easier for victims to access the support and information they need.

Before 2005, victims often had to work with two separate victim services offices: one through the Georgia Department of Corrections and another through the State Board of Pardons and Paroles. While both agencies provided valuable services, navigating multiple offices could be challenging during an already difficult time.

To better serve victims, the two offices joined together in 2005, creating a single point of contact for victims across Georgia. Then, in 2015, with the creation of the Department of Community Supervision, the office became the Georgia Office of Victim Services, expanding its role to support victims connected to all three agencies.

Today, GOVS continues to provide advocacy, information, notifications, and victim-centered support, ensuring they have a reliable resource to help navigate the post-conviction process.

June was a month of connection, education, and advocacy for the Georgia Office of Victim Services. 🧡

From attending and presenting at the National Association of Victim Assistance (NAVAC) Conference to facilitating meaningful Victim Impact Sessions that ensured survivors' voices were heard, our team remained committed to supporting victims and strengthening services across Georgia.

Throughout the month, we had the privilege of sharing knowledge, learning from fellow professionals, and raising awareness about the resources, rights, and support available to victims and survivors. Every presentation, conversation, and outreach opportunity helped further our mission of empowering victims through information, advocacy, and compassionate service.

Thank you to our partners, community members, and fellow advocates who continue to stand with us in advancing victim services.
