Earlier this year, we awarded New Hope AME Church with a historic landmark/site designation. Well, what does that mean? Historic designation is one way we recognize and help protect places that have played an important role in our city's story. That might be a landmark building, a historic site, or an entire neighborhood.

Whether you're a longtime resident, a new neighbor, a homeowner, or simply someone who loves Atlanta, historic preservation has something to do with you.

Your voice is still needed to help shape the Chattahoochee Brick Company and Atlanta Riverlands site. This riverfront property is being transformed into a space for recreation, a historic memorial, and a new trail network. We are hosting a community meeting later this month to get your feedback on the plans and we would love for you to join the conversation.

We are moving forward with the environmental cleanup at the Chattahoochee Brick Co. Site and we want you included in the plans. Because the property has faced past contamination, clearing the land safely is our top priority. Doing this work helps the environment and paves the way for a better future for the area.

Join us at the Northwest Library to get all the details. Your feedback is important and this meeting officially opens our 30 day public comment period. The public comment window runs through August 26.

This July, we are teaming up with our friends at Atlanta Parks & Recreation to discuss Toward an Urban Ecology and the author herself, award-winning landscape architect Kate Orff, is joining us.

We'll be discussing how nature, design, and parks all connect and what that looks like right here in Atlanta. We’ll also focus on the future park and memorial at the Chattahoochee Brick Company site and the Atlanta Riverlands project and its impact on our city.
