On Wednesday, May 6th, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners recognized the Fulton County Police Department Animal Services Division for their tireless dedication to the safety and welfare of the beloved pets and animals in Fulton County proclaiming May 6, 2026 as FCPD Animal Services Division Appreciation Day.

The proclamation highlighted an animal cruelty case from April 2, 2026 where our Animal Services Division received two complaints of an illegal dog kennel being ran out of a residence in Atlanta by a Christopher Floyd. The complainants advised that they had taken their animals to Christopher Floyd to have them trained and boarded and when they picked them up they were vomiting, covered in f***s and showing signs of starvation. Animal Services Officers met an investigator with the Department of Agriculture at the residence and observed multiple severely neglected dogs. It was discovered that Christopher Floyd did not have a kennel license through the State of Georgia and he denied running a kennel. Floyd stated on scene that he only had four dogs at his residence and then quickly left the location.

Animal Services obtained a search warrant for the residence and discovered 15 animals inside in deplorable conditions. There was a cat inside of a bird cage laying in its own f***s and in a back bedroom 12 dogs were found in kennels stacked three high with no food, no water and no ventilation. Another 2 dogs were found roaming inside. All of the animals were confiscated and taken to the Fulton County Animal Shelter. We were able to make contact with the owners of most of the animals and they were reunited.

Christopher Floyd was taken into custody and charged with 15 counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals, 3 counts of felony Theft by Deception and 2 counts of misdemeanor Theft by Deception. Floyd was charging thousands of dollars a week to pet owners to “train” their animals. One dog found inside the residence had lost 20lbs in just one week. We are thankful for the quick work of our officers and the compassion they showed.

Congratulations to our very own Elaine Smith for successfully graduating from the University of Georgia in the Certified Public Manager Program. Elaine serves as the Executive Assistant to our Chief of Police.

This program was nine months long and focused on building self-awareness, promoting collaboration and encouraging process improvement. The program not only offers professional development opportunities for public employees but also ensures more effective and efficient departments that are better prepared to serve their citizens. We are so proud of you!

Reminder that all lanes on I-285 (NB/SB) will be closed between exit 9 MLK Jr. Dr. and exit 7 Cascade Rd. starting tonight into Monday morning. Avoid the area if possible or plan ahead to use another route.

🚧 FULL WEEKEND CLOSURE ALERT 🚧

All lanes of I-285 (NB/SB) between MLK Jr. Drive and Cascade Road will be closed from 7 p.m. Friday, May 15 through 5 a.m. Monday, May 18.

Expect major delays across metro Atlanta, including heavy congestion on I-20, I-75/I-85, and SR 166.

Today, on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we honor the sacrifice, dedication, and courage of four of our own who gave their lives in the line of duty.

Detective Terence Green
End of Watch: March 4, 2015
Detective Green was shot and killed while investigating a domestic disturbance with shots fired. The suspect was shot on scene but survived and was sentenced to multiple life sentences. Detective Green had served with Fulton County Police for 22 years.

Officer Aaron Blunt, Sr.
End of Watch: April 22, 2003
Officer Blunt was shot and killed while out on a suspicious occupied vehicle at a gas station. The suspect was identified a while later and convicted.

Officer Christopher May
End of Watch: August 19, 1991
Officer May was shot and killed while investigating a shooting in a residential neighborhood. The suspect opened fire on other responding officers and was shot and killed on scene.

Officer David Hagins
End of Watch: December 14, 1980
Officer Hagins was shot and killed while investigating a burglary at a jewelry store. His partner was also shot but survived. Officer Hagins was only 22 years old at the time and had served with Fulton County Police for less than 6 months. His killer was sentenced to life in prison but only served two years when his conviction was overturned on appeal due to juror misconduct. He later committed another burglary and was sentenced to prison for that crime.

No matter how much time passes, we will always remember our brothers in blue and be thankful for their bravery and unwavering commitment to law enforcement.

It’s National Police Week and a time to reflect on and remember the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while doing the job they loved.

Two of our fallen officers, Officer David Leslie Hagins EOW: December 14, 1980 and Officer Christopher Bieker May EOW: August 19, 1991, were honored this week by the Sandy Springs Police at their new Police Headquarters. Officer Hagins was shot and killed while responding to the burglary of a jewelry store and Officer May was shot and killed while investigating a shooting in a residential neighborhood. Both of these incidents took place in Fulton County in locations that are now within the city limits of Sandy Springs.

We joined Sandy Springs Police, Officer Hagins’ family and fellow officers in a touching ceremony in which a training room was dedicated to each officer to ensure their legacy lives on.

Animal Services Officer Eubanks responded to a call in reference to a kitten stuck in a deep drainage system. The unusual location made it very difficult to even see the kitten let alone rescue it. After two hours of using one hand to hold his cellphone to see the kitten and the other hand repeatedly using a leash, Officer Eubanks was able to save this sweet little baby. Amazing job Officer Eubanks!
