Georgia Flood Map Program - GA DNR

Georgia Flood Map Program - GA DNR The Georgia Flood M.A.P. Program is provided by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.

On August 16, 1999, the State of Georgia entered into a Cooperating Technical Partner (CTP) agreement with FEMA Region IV. This agreement provides that the State of Georgia assumes responsibility for the development and updating of the state's flood Risk Maps (known as "Flood Insurance Rate Maps", or FIRMs) for all 159 counties. Through this agreement and as part of FEMA’s multi-year Flood Map Mod

ernization effort, the State of Georgia is funded by FEMA for the production and management of the digital FIRMS. The funding is determined each fiscal year based on the production success, the State's ability to obtain cost-share contributions, and the State's effectiveness in linking improved floodplain management with improved floodplain mapping. The State uses staff and consulting engineering firms to perform this work. The State's progress towards its objective is monitored quarterly by FEMA.

Training Webinar provided by US EPA

December 15, 2022
1 pm to 2:30 pm

Though this webinar talks about water utilities, it does apply to workforces in floodplain management.

"Creating the Water Workforce of the Future:
Transforming the Water Workforce"

December 15, 2022
1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time

In today’s world, water sector utilities need to work with many partners to recruit and retain a motivated and sustainable 21st century workforce—they can’t do it alone! Partners can include employment and training organizations, educational institutions, contractors, and others. There is also a pressing need to help current utility leaders develop the transformative skills they will need to lead the water workforce in the 21st century. Please join us on December 15, 2022, to hear from two leading utility workforce leaders from DC Water and AWWA as they take steps to develop a truly sustainable workforce for their utility and also help leaders across the sector develop the skills to address the myriad of challenges they will face moving forward.

This webinar is part of an ongoing webinar series hosted by EPA, in partnership with leading water sector organizations around the country. More information on this webinar series can be found at

GA DNR Floodplain Unit presents this webinar:

"No-Rise Determination"

When: January 11, 2023 at 12:00 pm (high noon)

Let’s get together

Analyzing the effect a project has on the Special Flood Hazard Area and Floodway is a key role of the Floodplain Administrator.

Oftentimes, projects will be designed so they cause “no rise” in Base Flood Elevations.

As a Floodplain Administrator, what are your responsibilities? How do you review the engineering modeling? What documentation do you need to create for your records? In this Lunch and Learn, we will cover these topics and more.

Don't miss this workshop and learning about the basics and more around no-rise determinations.

One Continuing Education Credit (CEC) is available for Certified Floodplain Managers who attend the entire webinar and participate in polls.

We hope you’re able to join us!

Webinar: Blue and Green Infrastructure for Climate Resiliency: A New Orleans Case Study

Viewers will receive one professional development hour (PDH)

Coastal cities are all too familiar with flooding and the negative impacts associated with climate change. Changes in precipitation patterns have resulted in a significant impact to our low-lying, coastal communities. Building resilient, adaptive systems that account for both existing and future demands is a difficult challenge – the success of which is critical to the future of New Orleans.

This presentation will highlight the Blue and Green Corridors project, in 90% design, which is one of the Gentilly Resilience District projects funded through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development’s National Disaster Resilience Competition. Blue and Green Corridors aims to reduce flood risk, slow land subsidence, and encourage neighborhood revitalization.

Cooperating Technical Partners Information Exchange Webinar

Topic: The National Water Model

The National Water Model (NWM) is a hydrologic modelling framework that simulates observed and forecast streamflow over the entire continental United States (CONUS). The NWM simulates the water cycle with mathematical representations of the different processes and how they fit together. This complex representation of physical processes such as snowmelt and infiltration and movement of water through the soil layers varies significantly with changing elevations, soils, vegetation types and a host of other variables. Additionally, extreme variability in precipitation over short distances and times can cause the response on rivers and streams to change very quickly.

The NWM produces hydrologic guidance at a very fine spatial and temporal scale. It complements official NWS river forecasts at approximately 4000 locations across the CONUS and produces guidance at millions of other locations that do not have a traditional river forecast.

Presenters:
-Alan Lulloff, PE, CFM - ASFPM Flood Science Center
-Brian Cosgrove, National Water Model Technical Director, NOAA
-Dave Guignet, Maryland NFIP Coordinator

The APA and ASFPM invites you to register for the next PIE webinar,

“Lost In Planning: Interdependent Vulnerabilities and Compounding Climate Threats”,

It is often said that “…a city is a system of systems”, but the aging infrastructure in these systems is a vulnerability exacerbated by natural hazards and climate variability. The 2018 National Climate Assessment highlighted that current water management and planning principles leave communities exposed to more risk than anticipated, as risks evolve over time and hazards can interweave and compound one another.
Join the next PIE webinar to learn how to use predictive algorithms to generate vulnerability assessments across key community infrastructure sectors, including potable water, transportation, energy, communications, and sanitation. This innovative approach addresses how the collocation of infrastructure can obscure the true vulnerability of our communities and flaws in their resilience.
Presenters: Paul Robinson, Senior Water Resources Leader and Global Community of Practice Lead for Flood Modeling and Planning, Jacobs.

Mark Reiner, Director of Resilient Infrastructure, Jacobs.
Kevin Currie, Training and E-learning Coordinator, ASFPM.

Eligible participants will receive 1 CM toward AICP and 1 CEC for CFM.
