Comment with your congratulations to our Budget for Life families! We’re thrilled to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of our clients and their families who recently completed the Money Management portion of our 12-month Budget for Life program. This milestone marks a powerful step forward in their journey toward financial stability and life skills growth.

💰 From January through June, 47 households paid off a combined $383,000 in debt—a testament to their hard work, discipline, and commitment to change.

🙏 A heartfelt thank you to our community partners who made this celebration possible:
- Second-Ponce de Leon Baptist Church for generously hosting
- Saint Anne's Episcopal Church and Ellen for providing thoughtful celebratory gifts

We love a full circle moment. 💛

This past week, a former BCM Georgia staff member returned—not just to visit, but to serve, alongside her children. It’s a beautiful reminder that when we invest in people, that impact ripples forward. We're so thankful to Jessica and all of the volunteers who have been supporting the Welcome Home Basket project to help homeless families create a home in their new houses.

At BCM, we believe in walking alongside families as they build stability and hope. And when those who’ve been part of our journey come back to give back, it’s a powerful testament to the power of investing in our local community.

We’re excited to recognize our Budget for Life cohort, who will be graduating from the Money Management portion of the Budget for Life program on Saturday. Forty-seven graduating households will be joined by BCM staff, friends, family, and volunteers from St. Anne's Episcopal Church.

We can't wait to celebrate this amazing group’s accomplishments, including debt payments and overall savings. Congratulations, graduates!

Today we celebrate the emancipation of the last group of enslaved Black people in 1865. Lincoln had signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, but it took two years for news of their freedom to reach the enslaved people of Galveston, TX.

On Juneteenth, we celebrate the resilience and the liberty of Black people in the U.S. We also recommit ourselves to the fight for equity and racial justice. We remember that, in order to be meaningful, freedom must be more than an idea. It must be something that touches every aspect of our lives and circumstances.

Our families are cost-burdened when it comes to housing. The U.S. Census Bureau defines anyone spending more than 30% of their income on housing as "cost-burdened." This leaves less money for other necessities, like food, transportation, childcare, and healthcare.

In Georgia, 40% of renters are considered cost-burdened, a status that affects their financial well-being and makes them vulnerable to unexpected circumstances.

In 2017, Tekeyla was stretched to her breaking point. Despite working three jobs, each month felt like a losing battle, with bills and expenses piling up faster than her paychecks could cover.

“I wanted better for my boys,” she recalls. “But I didn’t know where to start.”
