SWEEAC,Inc

SWEEAC,Inc It is with deep regret that we announce the closure of SWEEAC after 35 years of dedicated service, effective 12/31/2023.

In 1988, the issue of food insecurity had become overwhelmingly evident to the pastors of churches in the Southwest area of Atlanta; and in response, the Southwest Ecumenical Emergency Assistance Center (SWEEAC) was established in order to have one location to which each church could refer all its calls for help. Since that time, SWEEAC has endeavored to alleviate the lack of food resources to the

people by providing food and household items, clothes, health and beauty products, school supplies, assistance with life skills enhancement and referrals to other agencies for services it cannot provide. Beginning in 2020, due to COVID, we had to alter our in-person services and began focusing only on food distribution. SWEEAC is operated by an Executive Director and Assistant Director with the assistance of a cadre of volunteers who help with the day to day tasks of the Center.

It is with deep regret that we announce the closure of SWEEAC after 35 years of dedicated service, effective 12/31/2023. Serving the Atlanta communities and being a resource for families grappling with food insecurity has been a genuine honor and privilege. Unfortunately, like many nonprofits, the financial challenges have become insurmountable, particularly since our move to a new location. Meeting monthly obligations has proven difficult, making the decision to close our doors inevitable.

We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to all who supported, donated, volunteered, and answered our calls for assistance. Your support has been invaluable, and our appreciation knows no bounds. We acknowledge the emotional nature of this decision and apologize for not being able to personally reach out to each of you by phone. Your understanding is greatly appreciated.

Thank you once again, and please rest assured that we are diligently working to transition those who have benefited from our services to other organizations that can provide assistance.

If you need immediate food assistance we encourage you to reach out to the United Way by dialing 211 or you can visit the Atlanta Community Food Bank resource page at https://www.acfb.org/get-help/

ATTENTION:
We have reached our maximum number of families to receive toys this year. We apologize to anyone who was unable to get a space. We wish we had more open spaces. Please contact 211 for a list of other organizations that might be having a Christmas Toy event.

SWEEAC and its partners continue to make a difference in Atlanta communities. Many times people wonder how their donation dollars get put to work, and this is a perfect example. We are stronger together.
