Homelessness in Atlanta has increased by 6%.
shared that at least 3,060 people are experiencing homelessness this year. That means about 173 additional people are homeless compared to 2025.
So what does 3,060 people look like?
🚊That’s enough people to fill roughly 60 MARTA rail cars.
🏘️It’s about the population of a small Georgia town.
👉The increase of 173 people alone would require the equivalent of a large apartment complex’s worth of additional housing.
We were proud to have Gateway Center’s own Amanda Van Dalen participate in the panel discussion, where she shared early successes from our new Accelerated Shelter Exit strategy. Through intentional care coordination, housing-focused case management, and targeted support services, guests in this program are exiting shelter in an average of just 48 days, compared to the current system-wide average of 108 days.
This is what becomes possible when innovation, collaboration, and resources align around people who need support the most. Every investment in housing, behavioral health, workforce support, and wraparound services creates opportunities for stability, dignity, and new beginnings.
Thanks for this discussion!
