CHRIS 180 was founded in Georgia in 1981 as a collaboration between the Junior League of Atlanta and the Menninger Foundation to bridge gaps in foster care services for children who required residential mental health treatment, but who did not need institutionalization/hospitalization. We accomplish our mission by ensuring child and family well-being through mental health treatment and stable livi

ng environments; preventing family problems through education, counseling and teaching life skills; and impacting public policies through advocacy. We are one of the Southeast’s premiere mental health, child welfare and family service organizations. We are a leader in Georgia and a founding member of multiple collaborations to help children and families. Today, we save, serve and protect thousands of abused and neglected children while empowering families through positive, solution focused programming which includes: behavioral health, life/social/vocational skill development, group homes, community services, training and housing programs.

Women’s health includes emotional well-being too.

Mental and emotional health affect how people move through daily life, care for themselves, support their families, and stay connected to their communities. When women have access to care, support, and space to prioritize their well-being, the impact often reaches far beyond the individual.

Strong support for women can help strengthen families and create healthier communities over time.

As May comes to a close, Mental Health Awareness Month and Foster Care Month leave us with an important reminder, care, connection, and prevention all matter.

Support is not only about responding in moments of crisis. It is also about building strong relationships, increasing access to care, supporting families early, and creating the kind of community resources that help children and adults feel seen, safe, and supported over time.

At CHRIS 180, that work continues beyond one month. Every day, we remain committed to providing services that strengthen emotional well-being, support family stability, and help create better long-term outcomes across metro Atlanta.

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the service members who gave their lives in service to our country.

It is also a time to reflect on the meaning of service, sacrifice, and care for community. Strong communities are built through remembrance, responsibility, and support for one another, especially in times of need.

At CHRIS 180, we remain committed to serving children, adults, and families across metro Atlanta through care that helps strengthen individuals, families, and communities.

Self-Care Sunday reminder, boundaries are part of self-care too.

Protecting your time, energy, and emotional capacity is not selfish. It is one way people care for their mental and emotional well-being.

Sometimes self-care looks like saying no, asking for space, or choosing not to carry more than you can handle right now.

As the weekend begins, this is a simple reminder to check in with yourself.

Rest matters. Support matters. Stability matters.

Taking care of your mental health does not always mean making a major change. Sometimes it looks like slowing down, asking for help, keeping a routine, or giving yourself space to reset before a new week begins.

At CHRIS 180, we believe care should be practical, accessible, and rooted in what people need most.

Support for children and foster families matters year-round because stability, care, and connection are not short-term needs.

Children and families involved in foster care often need ongoing support that helps create consistency, strengthen emotional well-being, and provide a stronger foundation over time. Foster families also benefit from having access to community resources, trusted support systems, and services that help them continue showing up well for the children in their care.

At CHRIS 180, we believe strong support systems can make a meaningful difference for children and families across every season.

Support is only helpful when people can actually reach it.

Care cannot make a difference if it feels too far away, too confusing to access, or out of reach when it is needed most. Transportation, cost, availability, timing, and awareness can all affect whether individuals and families are able to connect with support.

That is why access matters. It is not only about whether services exist. It is about whether people can truly use them.

At CHRIS 180, we believe care should be available in ways that are practical, timely, and connected to the needs of the community.

Self-Care Sunday reminder, sometimes fresh air is a good place to start.

Spending time outside can offer a small but meaningful reset. A short walk, a few quiet minutes on the porch, or stepping away from screens for a bit can help create space to breathe and regroup.

Self-care does not have to be complicated to be helpful.

Sometimes, the signs that a child needs extra emotional support are easy to miss.

Changes in behavior, withdrawal, trouble concentrating, irritability, shifts in sleep, frequent emotional outbursts, or a sudden drop in school engagement can all be signs that something deeper may be going on. Not every child expresses stress the same way, and emotional needs do not always look obvious.

Paying attention early can help children get the support they need before challenges grow more serious.

Mother’s Day is also a time to recognize the care, responsibility, and emotional load that many caregivers carry every day.

Caregiving often includes far more than what others can see, managing schedules, meeting emotional needs, offering comfort, making decisions, and holding things together through both routine and hard seasons. That work matters, and it deserves to be acknowledged.

Today, we honor mothers and caregivers for the support they provide and the care they give so consistently.
