This morning the President of the Avondale Estates Garden Club, Julie Martinez (center) and the President of the Avon Garden Club, Erin Vaughn (right) spoke at the Blue Star Memorial Highway marker. They shared the history of the markers and what a blue star means for families of those in the service.

Mayor Pro Tem Graham Reiney (left) welcomed the crowd. Commissioners Lyda Steadman and Luis Suazo were also in attendance alongside community members, veterans, and members of the American Legion Post 66.

Blue Star Memorial Highways honor U.S. Armed Forces. Created in 1945 by the National Council of State Garden Clubs (now National Garden Clubs, Inc.), it uses the blue star from WWII service flags as a living tribute to all who serve.

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible team behind the scenes that keeps Avondale Estates running smoothly.

From maintaining our streets and public spaces to stormwater inspections, yard waste pickup, and helping our city stay safe, clean, functional, and beautiful, our Public Works team does it all.💪

Their hard work, dedication, and care for this community does not go unnoticed. We are endlessly grateful for everything they do to serve the City of Avondale Estates each and every day.❤️

Please join us in thanking our amazing Public Works staff during National Public Works Week! 👏🚧🌿

It’s time to get planning for the annual Fourth of July parade! You’re invited to be a part of the tradition, whether by participating in the parade or volunteering behind the scenes. This is a great opportunity for residents to unite and honor America’s 250th birthday with pride, creativity and community spirit.🇺🇸

Local businesses, community groups, families and individuals are encouraged to sign up and showcase their patriotic spirit. Participants are welcome to decorate floats, golf carts, bikes or simply walk the parade route and celebrate Independence Day with the community. Apply to be in the parade at the link in our bio.

Volunteers are also needed to help make the event a success. From assisting with setup and staging to helping with logistics on parade day, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Looking to lean a helping hand? Visit the volunteer link in bio ❤
