Today is the last day of NOVA's Advanced Crisis Response Team Training! Similar to the Basic CRT training offered annually through PAC, this 24-hour course is packed with essential protocols that prepare attendees to respond effectively in times of mass-casualty crisis.

Over the past few days, participants explored the impact of trauma, team deployment strategies, and best practices for working with the media.

We’re always grateful for the opportunity to partner with NOVA, and we look forward to continuing this important work together!

We said farewell (almost) to Haydee R. Jones, who will officially retire from PAC on June 1. Haydee began her career with the State of Georgia in 2005 and has grown and advanced through the years, ultimately joining PAC as our Senior HR Generalist.

Thank you, Haydee, for your many years of dedicated service to the State of Georgia and for all you’ve contributed to PAC. While we’re sad to see you go, we’re so excited for you as you begin this next chapter!

The Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia is a nine member, non-partisan body of elected District Attorneys and Solicitors-General from around Georgia who, along with the Executive Director and staff, serve as the fiscal officer for the District Attorneys and provide assistance to all of the prosecuting attorneys of the State in their efforts against criminal activity and in enforcing the laws of the State of Georgia.

In a recent campaign text message concerning the May 19 Republican Primary for District Attorney for the Paulding Judicial Circuit, an assertion was made about the Council supplying data about a particular candidate to another candidate. That statement is false.

No request was ever made to the Council or its staff. PACGA cannot speak to the accuracy of the data contained in the text and any conclusions drawn from it. The Executive Director has spoken to the campaign responsible for the ad and asked that a correction be made, removing the Council’s name.

The Council calls on all candidates vying for an elected prosecutor position to conduct themselves honestly, ethically, and to the highest standards in their actions on the campaign trail just as they are expected to do while in the courtrooms of Georgia.

Last week, Jessica Rock spoke at the University of Florida’s Veterinary Forensic Sciences Laboratory during Animal ForensiCon, where she presented on the critical connection between animal cruelty and human violence.

Fast forward to this week, and Jessica is still going strong. This time presenting “Animal Crime Cases: From the Crime Scene to the Courtroom - The Vital Role of Veterinarians” at the International Veterinary Forensic Sciences Association’s 19th Annual IVFSA Conference in Banff, Canada.

It’s been a busy two weeks, but when your passion is ending animal crimes and holding abusers accountable, you show up and share your expertise whenever you can.

Thank you to the Veterinary Forensic Sciences Laboratory and the International Veterinary Forensic Sciences Association for the invitation and opportunity to speak on these important topics. While these cases are challenging, education and awareness remain key to change.

Our PAC interns do far more than shuffle papers. We give them real-world experiences that prepare them for the prosecution profession.

Just this past Thursday, Grace Lucas, who was a third-year law student, had the opportunity to present an oral argument in a case PAC is handling out of Brunswick at a community oral arguments event hosted by Albany State University. The event brought together judges from the Georgia Court of Appeals, students, attorneys, and community members to focus on family law and criminal sentencing, offering a unique glimpse into legal advocacy and the interpretation of Georgia law.

We should note that Grace was a third-year law student because she graduated on Friday from Mercer University… argued one day and walked the next! 🎓 Even more exciting, she’ll soon be joining the Conasauga Judicial Circuit as an Assistant District Attorney. Congratulations, Grace!

It was an excellent event, and we appreciate the opportunity to participate.

Last week, Sharla Jackson and Derek Marchman brought the statewide Family Violence Training to the Georgia Public Safety Training Center to present at Trooper School. Up-and-coming state patrol officers receive extensive instruction throughout their training academy, and we’re grateful to help focus on this critical topic.

Family violence is, unfortunately, something these officers will encounter in the field. The more they know, the better prepared they are to recognize the signs and respond swiftly. We appreciate the opportunity to present!
