Emory AFGA was established in spring of 2014 by a group of young and motivated students seeking to form a student-run organization that spreads awareness about various global issues present in our world and fostering creative solutions to such problems. Ever since its humble beginnings, AFGA has been a platform for students at Emory University to engage in activities geared towards educating the l
ocal Atlanta community about global poverty as well as providing ways in which the community can make an impact on an individual level. Over the course of its history, AFGA has offered its members activities and events that appeal to one or more of the five core focus areas - Economic Development, Education, Healthcare, Humanitarian Assistance, and Rural Development. Through these activities, members of AFGA are called to educate themselves and others on global initiatives, drawing attention to world hunger, poverty, illiteracy, and poor health, with a special emphasis on quality education initiatives as a means to eradicate global poverty. Students, staff, and faculty members, as well as the surrounding communities, are called upon to reveal to others the promising solutions that can help to alleviate poverty and restore dignity to the poorest of the poor. By learning about and sharing holistic solutions that are implemented in the developing world, students can act as ambassadors of hope in making the world a safer, more peaceful place for all.
