From the desk of Casey Sears Real Estate and Gamers Need Homes, Too:
Saving is Fun!
I’m so excited to share a success story that’s two years in the making. Jennifer reached out to me a couple of years ago, determined to buy a home but struggling to save up enough for a 3% down payment. She’s one of the hardest working women I’ve ever met, and as a single mom, her plate was full.
I’m not a financial advisor, but I do love helping people take control of their budgets. I suggested Jennifer do a little homework: go through her last two months of bank statements and list every purchase—breaking down needs versus the "fun stuff." She found that she could save about $500 a month!
Jennifer committed to putting that $500 into a high-yield savings account. Fast forward two years, and she had saved over $13,000! We found her the perfect home—3 bedrooms, 2,400 square feet in metro Atlanta—and made an offer for $400,000. Plus, we negotiated for the seller to cover $5,000 of her closing costs.
Here’s the best part: Jennifer qualified for a government grant that gave her $10,000 toward her down payment. When all was said and done, she became a homeowner, bringing only around $9,000 to closing!
No more rent hikes. No more less-than-ideal rentals. No more bad landlords. Jennifer and her child finally have a home to call their own, and it all started with a simple shift in saving habits.
Her story shows how a little planning and discipline can turn dreams into reality!
