The Hartwell Heart and Soul Downtown Workshop is coming to the City of Hartwell on Sept. 23, giving municipal officials an opportunity to explore real-world strategies for strengthening downtowns and neighborhoods.

Presented through the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute in partnership with the Georgia Cities Foundation, this six-hour workshop will feature presentations, downtown tours and firsthand insights from Hartwell officials and downtown practitioners. Participants will learn from successful projects, lessons learned and resources available to support revitalization efforts in their own communities.

Eligible participants can also earn six hours of training credit.

This week's shines on the city of Augusta, GA! Incorporated in 1996, Augusta is a Richmond County community with a population of about 202,081 residents and is the second-largest and one of the oldest cities in Georgia. With a deep history dating back to the American Revolution and Civil War, Augusta offers plenty for visitors to explore, from museums and theaters to parks and other attractions. Today, the city continues to be a vibrant hub of history, culture, and recreation.

Fun Fact: During the Civil War, Augusta was home to the largest Confederate gunpower factory.

Congratulations to GMA’s Governmental Relations team on an outstanding recognition from JAMES Magazine Online!

GMA has been ranked the #1 Top Business and Trade Association in Georgia, reflecting the results, relationships and reputation our team has built while representing Georgia’s cities at the State Capitol and beyond.

Several team members also earned individual recognition: Deputy Executive Director Jim Thornton was named among Georgia’s Top 100 lobbyists, ranking No. 31, while DJ Waller and Katrina Cochran were recognized among the state’s “Rising Stars,” ranking No. 6 and No. 13, respectively.

These honors reflect the talent and dedication of our Governmental Relations team, as well as the strong partnership of GMA’s Legislative Policy Council, Board of Directors and city officials who engage in advocacy throughout the year.
