Another successful round of AToN…this time in Chesapeake Bay. Our crew conducted a mooring inspection, completed new chain work, verified and installed new lights, and repositioned an aid to its correct location — all to help ensure the safety of mariners navigating our waterways. Proud of the teamwork from every department whose work not only keeps these critical waterways safe and reliable, but keeps our ship and equipment running, our crews fed and healthy, the supplies we need flowing and the admin cranking so we can focus on the mission ⚓️

Thanks to MK1 Loe, BM3 Miller, BM3 Green, SN Rose, and ENS Baity for the pictures 📸

Back to doing what we do best ⚓️

Over the past few weeks, we got after it working some aids and got our newer crew members out on the small boat. We worked on sharpening fundamentals—boat handling, mooring and unmooring, tracklines, and man overboard drills.
Then wrapped it up with a well-earned lunch in beautiful Beaufort (with a special surprise from Mama Miller) and of course sprinkled in plenty of anchoring reps to round out the day.

Always great days out on the water 👊

The work and the fun never stops on Maple 😅 Big day today:

🍾 We celebrate Chief Gilio as he leaves Maple and heads off to Officer Candidate School! We are so proud of you!

☔️ We showered DC1 Haden and EM3 Broussard who are expecting new additions to their families. Great job MK1 Loe, EM1 Hawkins, and EMC Housley on putting together a great party!

⚓️ The small boat crew enjoyed the perfect weather with some training. More pictures from their day coming tomorrow…..

⚓ All salts, swabs, sea lawyers, and landlubbers wherever ye may be — Ahoy! ⚓

We recently had the honor of celebrating the ET1 Fedynich and BM2 Misioka as they were presented with their Permanent Cutterman Insignia….a respected milestone reached after completing five years of dedicated underway time, which requires sacrifice and true commitment to life at sea.

In a powerful tradition, all of Maple’s Cuttermen placed ice, salt, earth, and sea water into the ship’s bell — each element symbolizing the diverse platforms, environments, and missions they’ve served throughout their careers in the Coast Guard. Once combined, the new Cutterman insignias were dipped into the bell before being proudly pinned to their uniforms by our Commanding Officer and our Master Cutterman — a reminder that no Cutterman earns this distinction alone, but stands on the experience and legacy of those who served before.

We also said farewell to our FN Matsumoto as he heads off to Maritime Enforcement Specialist “A” School. We will miss ya, wishing you the best!

⚓️Congratulations to Petty Officer Mahaffey on advancing to MK2 today! 🎉

MK2 Mahaffey consistently brings a fun and positive attitude to everything he does and is truly one of the best. He’s respected and appreciated by his shipmates, an outstanding asset to the Engineering Department and the small boat crew and he excels as an Investigator during damage control emergency drills. His professionalism, teamwork, and dedication do not go unnoticed.
Well-earned and well-deserved—congrats, MK2! 👏💪⚙️

Members of Maple’s Gold Team squeezed in some fun at the Coast Guard Yard with a friendly volleyball match against a unit with the Sri Lanka Navy 🏐🇱🇰🇺🇸 After the match, they graciously invited the crew of MAPLE aboard for snacks and conversation. Always grateful for opportunities like this to build camaraderie, share stories, and strengthen international partnerships—on and off the court

Big day today! We were proud to celebrate Petty Officer Hawkins, who officially advanced to Electrician’s Mate First Class, and Petty Officer Kennon, who advanced to Boatswain’s Mate First Class!

Both were pinned by family and friends in front of the Maple crew at our go-to spot, Fort Macon State Park. Advancements like these are earned through hard work, dedication, and showing up day after day for the ship and each other.

Congratulations, EM1 Hawkins and BM1 Kennon — well deserved, and we’re lucky to have you guys💪⚓️🌊

Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, and successful New Year! 🎉✨The holidays can be tough when you’re away from family and friends — especially while split crews are up at dry dock — but our teams made the most of it and turned the night into something special.

From Secret Santa and a guess the baby contest, to fun (and competitive) marshmallow holiday games put together by FN Hollis, and a super fun relay race organized by EM2 Hawkins, BM3 Green, and SN Arnold — the laughs were nonstop. We wrapped up the night with raffle prizes and good company, reminding us that even away from home, we’re still a family.

Huge thanks to our morale committee for making it all happen: BM3 Green, EM2 Hawkins, BM3 Nester, SN Rose, FN Hollis, SN Arnold, and FN Matsumoto.
