🚨 SCAM & SPAM CALLS: STAY ALERT 🚨

The Atlantic Beach Police Department has seen an increase in residents reporting spam and scam calls recently, including two incidents that resulted in significant monetary losses.

These calls can sound very convincing and may appear to come from a legitimate business, government agency, bank, law enforcement agency, or even a local phone number. Scammers may use official-sounding language, claim there is an urgent problem, or pressure you to provide personal information or send money.

Remember:
• Don’t provide personal, financial, or account information to an unexpected caller.
• Don’t send money, purchase gift cards, or provide cryptocurrency at the request of a caller.
• Don’t rely on caller ID—phone numbers can be spoofed.
• If a caller creates a sense of urgency or threatens consequences if you don’t act immediately, take a moment to stop and verify the information independently.
• If you are unsure, hang up and contact the organization directly using a phone number from its official website or your account statement—not a number provided by the caller.

When in doubt, hang up. Verify independently.

If you believe you have been the victim of a scam or have lost money, contact the Atlantic Beach Police Department at 252-726-2523 and your financial institution as soon as possible.

Join us tomorrow, Friday, August 28 at 10:00 AM at the Atlantic Beach Police Department for the VIPS Program Kickoff Meeting!
We’re excited to get this program underway and look forward to seeing you there!

VIPS is Back in Atlantic Beach! 🚓💙

After nearly ten years, the Atlantic Beach Police Department is proud to bring back our Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Program!

ABPD is partnering with Coastal Community Action to relaunch this important community program and continue building strong relationships between our officers and the residents we serve.

The VIPS Program provides an opportunity for community members ages 55 and older to volunteer their time and experience in support of the Atlantic Beach Police Department. Volunteers will assist with non-law-enforcement duties such as traffic assistance, community programs, special events, and other activities that help support our officers and the community.

VIPS volunteers do not carry weapons, make arrests, or perform law enforcement duties. All volunteers must complete an application, background check, and training before serving.
