The Monmouth County Office of Emergency Management is launching a new registration portal for residents with access and functional needs. The Monmouth County Emergency Vulnerability & Assistance Coordination System (E.V.A.C.S.) initiative is voluntary and free program designed to assist first responders and emergency planners in identifying those residents that may need assistance in evacuating in advance of an emergency and so that emergency management may develop the necessary plans to support those needs. It will also aid emergency planners in the development of shelter plans for those residents with Access and functional Needs. The information collected through a secure on-line portal is only accessible to emergency management and first responders.

What is Monmouth County Emergency Vulnerability & Assistance Coordination System?

A winter storm bringing significant snowfall and strong winds is expected to move into our area on Sunday evening and continue into Monday. We are ready - with more than 1,350 workers from JCP&L, FirstEnergy sister companies and contractors on standby ahead of the storm to help restore power if outages occur.

While the exact track of the storm is uncertain, dangerous blizzard conditions are expected overnight Sunday, including zero visibility, slick or impassable roads and strong wind gusts that prevent working in buckets. When these hazards are present, our crews are unable to safely make repairs, which can extend restoration times. Once these conditions subside, we'll be out there working to restore service as quickly as safely possible.

We encourage you to stay safe and prepared. The tips below can help ensure you're ready before the storm arrives.

We are watching the forecast closely and will keep you informed every step of the way. We'll weather the storm together - stay safe!

How to Prepare for the Winter Storm

These simple steps can help ensure you're ready if an outage occurs:

Sign up for outage alerts and text messaging to get updates if you lose power
Assemble an emergency kit
Know how to report a power outage

View more storm prep tips.

How We Restore Power After a Storm

After a storm, safety is our top priority. We must first clear hazards - like downed power lines and trees and blocked roads - so it's safe for our crews to assess the damage and begin making repairs.

We then follow a proven process to restore power to all customers as quickly and safely as possible:

Repair high-voltage lines that provide electricity to local lines
Restore power to critical public service facilities
Address outages affecting the most customers
Fix localized issues and restore power to individual customers

Learn more about our restoration process.

Stay Safe During an Outage

If you lose power, stay safe with these tips:

Stay 30+ feet from downed power lines and anything they touch. Stay alert for hidden hazards in heavy snow. Call 9-1-1 ASAP to report downed lines.
Keep generators outside. Be sure the power coming into your home is disconnected to prevent sending electricity back onto power lines and endangering workers. View more generator safety tips.
Use flashlights or battery-powered lanterns for light instead of candles to avoid fire hazards.
Never use appliances for heat. Gas stoves, grills or outdoor heaters can produce deadly carbon monoxide gas.

Winter Storm Reminder from Atlantic Highlands Office of Emergency Management
With the pending winter storm expected to arrive later today, we want to remind all residents of a few important safety tips and updates:

Power outages:
If you experience a power outage, please report it immediately to JCP&L using their mobile app or online.

Down Wires:
If you come across a downed wire, do not approach or touch it – always assume it is live. Report downed wires by calling 911, they in turn will dispatch emergency responders.

Travel and parking:
We urge all residents to stay home during the storm to allow plow crews to clear roadways efficiently and safely. If possible, park vehicles off the street to help crews fully clear the roads.

Prepare ahead for the storm:
Use the reminder of today to prepare for the storm expected Sunday into Monday. Be sure you have all necessary supplies for you, your family, and your pets before the snow begins to fall.

Pet Safety:
Don’t forget about your pets. With temperatures dropping during and after the storm, make sure all animals have a warm, dry, and safe place to stay out of the snow and cold.

Atlantic Highlands OEM will be working closely throughout the storm with our emergency response partners to monitor conditions.
