The Atlantic Highlands Police Department proudly congratulates Sergeant Jonathan Elmer on completing his final shift on May 26, 2026. His retirement will become effective on September 1, 2026, marking the conclusion of 25 years of dedicated service to the residents of Monmouth County.
Sergeant Elmer began his law enforcement career in 1999 with the Manasquan Police Department as a Class I Special Officer. He subsequently served as a Class II Special Officer with both the Manasquan Police Department and the Point Pleasant Beach Police Department until 2001. That same year, he was appointed as a full-time Police Officer with the Englishtown Police Department, where he served until 2006. He then continued his career with the Interlaken Police Department as a full-time officer until the department’s dissolution in 2010.
On October 13, 2010, Patrolman Elmer joined the Atlantic Highlands Police Department, where he would serve the community for the next 16 years. In recognition of his leadership and professionalism, he was promoted to Sergeant in 2022.
Sergeant Elmer is the kind of officer who will not soon be forgotten. His fellow officers valued his camaraderie and leadership, while members of the community appreciated his approachable and outgoing nature.
Although Sergeant Elmer will be greatly missed, his legacy will endure through the officers he mentored and prepared to carry on the department’s mission. We thank him for his unwavering dedication to the Borough of Atlantic Highlands and wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.
