The Joe Ralls House Christmas Elf had been busy..LOL. Lots of these were made and given to several Police Officers who dropped by to pick up teddy bears and cinnamon rolls, the neighbors and their kids and assorted friends. Again, I love Christmas.

Wow, its been a while since Ive been on here updating, but I have been busy with the house, frustrated with trespassers cutting thru the yard right by the bay windows taking a short cut to the drug dealers house....Loooong story but I think between Atoka's Finest, a really good parent and two drug houses being tore down the trespassing is now under control.
For those who know me know that Christmas is THE holiday that I go all out for. I worked two months on the 2 ten foot trees, lighting all the windows and the porch rails and spindles. Truly, a lot of work goes into this and then right after Thanksgiving I take the blinds down and pull the curtains in the bay to fully expose the trees and the life size Santa. Ive had the ladies at the museum tell me they love seeing the Joe Ralls house at Christmas time, I love seeing the tourists stop to take pictures and have even had some ask if they could come onto the property to get better pictures..."SURE..help yourself." And Ive enjoyed answering their questions about the house. But sadly, not this year. Because of the trespassers cutting thru so closely to the house, the curtains and blinds stayed closed. The windows and the porch were lit and that was it.
I cannot begin to express how angry I was over this. All that work for nothing. Each tree sported 1200 lights and nobody was going to get to see them. Our neighbor on 2nd St pulled their tree out of the window and closed their curtains for the same reason.
Maybe next Christmas will be back to "normal" and the trees can go back on display.

And now its beginning to look a lot like Christmas. The tree in the center sports pinecones and berries. It's theme is Nature and has little squirrel ornaments. I did just have to put new lights on it, but that's okay. The 2 tall trees are 10 feet tall and sport 950 lights each. The tree to the left has store bought ornaments and even some from when I was a kid. The one to the right has store bought balls but all the rest is nothing but homemade ornaments. As time goes by and I get time, homemade ornaments will be on both trees.

Anybody ho knows me knows that I love taking care of the birds and squirrels. LOL, I guess its therapeutic to sit back and watch them. But here in the first picture I have a bird feeder that is a swing and the squirrels LOVE to sit in that swing and chow down, Its kind of hard to see him but there is a squirrel sitting there. Then I also made a bird feeder out of a red Folgers plastic coffee can and the squirrels love to get in that and eat..LOL. Now how I got this little guy to look right at me while I took his picture is just beyond me, but he just kept sitting there eating while I took several pictures of him.

Well I have fallen on my face again. Things have been busy and time has gotten away from me, so let me try to catch up here and do some updating.
Canning jam and jelly was fun. There is a Nectarine tree here on the Joe Ralls property. The poor tree has not been cared for in a long time, but it produced a lot of small Nectarines and with a lot of work I got 12 jars of Nectarine jam along with 11 1/2 jars of strawberry jam and 11 jars of blueberry jam and 12 small jars of blueberry pancake syrup. In October I canned 13 jars of Pineapple/Strawberry Pink Moscato Wine Jelly and 10 jars of Sweet Red Wine Jelly.
The care and feeding of the Nectarine tree continued all thru the fall and will pick up again in late Spring. I am hoping for bigger healthier fruit. There were 2 people that had the courtesy to come and ask me if they could pick from the tree, which I didnt mind, I'm not greedy and I know that I cannot pick the entire tree. But I did have somebody or a few people pick without asking and they were even rude enough to leave evidence that they had been there...like smoking while they were picking and then putting their menthol ci******es out on the ground under my tree 😕. Because of this, the raised gardens will go in the back...things from the garden better not disappear!!!

This family of Armadillos come thru the back yard quite frequently rooting around. There used to be four of them, but sadly one got hit by a car. They are fun to watch as they do their rooting and then once they get their fill of doing whatever it is they are doing they waddle off to the neighbor's house where they live over there under his house.

Look closely by the bucket. Like I've said, we get all kinds of wild life here in the acre. Here we have a momma possum getting a drink before retiring under the house with all of her babies. I was only about 5 to 6 feet away from her and she was not afraid of me.

When the temps were pretty hot and it was so humid I made sure all the critters that visited here at The Joe Ralls House had water. Well this little guy decided to take full advantage of cooling off in this log planter that was full of cool water. LOL. Of course once he got out and went on his way, I cleaned it out and refilled it because the cats and squirrels love to drink from it.

These little babies started coming in the first week in April. Truthfully I wasn't even sure there would be any, I just didn't know. We are now ending the first week of Sept. These little tiny joys will be leaving next month to go South for the winter, I will miss them, but I will be ready for their return next year. So far I have used a little over 100 pounds of sugar for their feed. We are giving a low estimated guess that we have housed and fed approximately 150 to 200 Humming birds. They are nested in all our trees in the front of the house and in the Magnolia on the side of the house and we have watched them fly from trees across the street to come and feed at our feeders. They have been a joy to feed and sit back and watch. Next it will be the Cardinals.

As I have stated in an earlier post, I support our Military, both Active and Veterans. I also support ALL Law Enforcement officers and Deputies. This guy here was my friend for 15 years. We worked together at the Guthrie Job Corp Center..He was one hell of guy and the best of a friend you could ever want. While on duty with the Logan County Sheriff's Dept, Dave was serving an eviction notice and he was shot and killed. My heart is still heavy with grief over his death. Today is Dave's birthday.....I know it was Heavenly. I'd give anything if he could still be with us today.

Due to the excessive heat and/or humidity I've not been doing any work to the outside. It's just been the basic sidewalk sweeping. Sweeping up half eaten green Hickory Nuts that the Squirrels throw down. I have been keeping the Squirrels and Hummingbirds fed, they seem to be growing in numbers, which I don't mind. Taking care of almost a full acre is quite a job, but I'm hoping that when the temps cool down somewhat that I can begin to work on the Raised Garden boxes for next season. Also to hang 1/2 in" plywood to finish the walls in the garage (Man shed) before hanging the shelves.

The finished product. I love the porch with the rails. Cannas have been planted in the front of the porch and 3 out of 4 of them are growing like weeds. I am hoping that soon they spread all across the front of the house and down the side.
