*** THAT TEXT CAN WAIT ***

Your friends and family need you alive more than they need a reply.

Taking your eyes off the road for just a few seconds to read or send a message can have life changing consequences. No text, notification, or social media update is worth risking your life or someone else's.

Before you drive:
• Put your phone away
• Turn on "Do Not Disturb While Driving"
• Stay focused on the road

Make the safe choice every time you get behind the wheel. Arrive alive.

***TEEN DRIVER SAFETY ALERT***

Summer has notoriously become known as the "100 Deadliest Days" for teen drivers. Parents play a key role in ensuring their teen drivers' safety by staying engaged in their driving habits and reinforcing safe practices:

📵 Avoid Distractions
🚭 Avoid Substances
🚗 Avoid driving with extra passengers
🚦 Buckle Up
💤 Don’t drive drowsy
🏎️ Slow Down

A few conversations today could prevent a tragedy tomorrow. Help your teen build safe driving habits that will last a lifetime.

The South Tipton County Chamber of Commerce Board members stopped by the APD today for an inside look at our training operations.

During the visit, Sgt. Daniel and Officer Dancey demonstrated our state-of-the-art VirTra V-100 Use of Force Simulator, providing valuable insight into the decision-making, de-escalation, critical thinking, and judgment our officers must apply in real-world situations every day. The demonstration highlighted the extensive training and professionalism required of today’s law enforcement officers.

We sincerely appreciate the Chamber’s continued partnership and support of public safety initiatives within our community. Opportunities such as these strengthen the relationship between the Atoka Police Department and the citizens we proudly serve.

Thank you again to the South Tipton County Chamber of Commerce for taking the time to visit with us today. We hope the experience was both informative and impactful, and we look forward to continuing our strong partnership in the future.

Today we pause to observe Memorial Day — a solemn day of remembrance for the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. Because of their sacrifice, we continue to enjoy the freedoms and opportunities too often taken for granted.

As you go through today, reflect on the virtues Memorial Day represents: service, sacrifice, loyalty, and love of country. Make a conscious effort to live out those values in your own actions — through kindness, selflessness, and support for one another.

While we can never repay or replace those we have lost, we can honor their memory by how we live each day and by never forgetting the price that was paid for our freedom.

Take a moment today to truly reflect on what Memorial Day means and to give our fallen heroes the remembrance and gratitude they so greatly deserve.

“Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it; it flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it.” — Unknown

UPDATE: All back open….thank you!

Good Morning, Atoka! As you start your daily outings, know there will be a road closure for northbound Atoka McLauglin (the road beside Town Hall) this morning only. There is a permitted run allowed for the morning hours....as long as the police and cones are out, the roadway will be closed. Southbound is unaffected, other than we ask you go slower than usual and watch out for those running "The Murph". The run is in honor of Navy SEAL LT Michael P. Murphy — and all of those who gave everything for this nation and our freedoms. Happy Memorial Day, Atoka!

Quick note for the Murph tomorrow!

Atoka PD will have Atoka McLaughlin southbound traffic only, to aid in providing a safe run! This means you need to plan on coming to Train Foundry from Highway 51 (yellow arrow on map below). I will be sending a reminder text/email later tonight as well.

Oh and if you haven’t signed up, click the link below! 6:45 am and 7:45 am showtimes.

AES WRAPS UP ANOTHER GREAT SCHOOL YEAR!

APD had a blast today helping send off the students of Atoka Elementary School on their last day of school!

We enjoyed cheering on the students, sharing smiles and waves, and celebrating the end of another successful school year.

We hope everyone has a safe, relaxing, and fun-filled summer. Stay safe, enjoy the break, and we’ll see you all again next school year!

“IT JUST CLICKS WITH US”

The Tennessee “Click It or Ticket” campaign is underway. Buckling up takes only seconds and could save your life or the life of someone you love.

Day or night, drivers and passengers, front seat and back seat. Make sure everyone is buckled up before you drive.

• Seat belts are required by law.
• Extra enforcement patrols will be out.
• Don’t risk a ticket — or your life.
