Today I decided to work on the pasture just north of the house. I’m reusing rail road ties that John Damschroder had used and I bought the lumber from an Amish sawmill in Rome Ohio. I chose native rough sawn lumber not only because of its durability but it is also very cheap. According to the moon today is an ideal day to set posts.

Todays photograph shows the Houck family. Jacob and Isaac Houck were two brothers that had married 2 sisters, Johannah and Caroline Walter. Both families were among some of the original settlers of Seneca county. Isaac, was born in the year 1820 in Germany and Jacob was born on May 10th, 1854 and served many titles such as Farmer, Auctioneer, Justice of the Peace, township clerk, treasurer of the Seneca County Farmers’ Mutual Benefit Association, trustee of Sts. Peter and Paul, and was considered for candidacy for county commissioner but missed nomination by 7 votes. Both Jacob and Isaac were associated with the Democratic Party and were catholic. Jacob and Isaac moved to the farm in 1887 after purchasing it from their father. The Houck family owned the farm until 1949 when it was sold to Ralph and Lelia Williams. The Houck’s are buried in their family plot at St. Peter and Paul cemetery in Attica.

Hi everyone, I thought it’d be a fun idea to share the journey memories, and history of my house! This picture was sent to me by Franklin Williams. Franklins grandparents owned and lived in this house from approximately 1949-1954. The Williams relocated to where John Willman lived.
