Shortly after taking office in March 2023, I spoke to Veterans Agent Ben Quelle about Attleboro needing a monument for our veterans and military members who served in the Global War on Terror. The city has a long history of honoring veterans and military members and the time had come to recognize those who served in this effort.

We then created an ad hoc committee consisting of Attleboro veterans and non-veteran residents to fundraise and plan for the monument. After 2+ years of hard work designing the monument, planning for its location and installation, and raising over $100K in funds, Attleboro’s Global War on Terror Monument will be officially dedicated on Friday, September 11 @ 11am in beautiful Capron Park.

Please join us in honoring our military members and veterans who served. All are welcome!!

Global War on Terrorism Monument Dedication Ceremony Scheduled for Sept. 11 in Attleboro
ATTLEBORO, Mass. (August 18, 2026) — The Attleboro Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) Committee will dedicate the City of Attleboro's Global War on Terrorism Monument during a public ceremony at 11:00AM Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, at Veterans Triangle in Capron Park.
The monument honors the courage, service and sacrifice of Attleboro's men and women who answered the nation's call during the Global War on Terrorism. It serves as a permanent tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those who served honorably throughout the more than two decades of conflict, and those who continue to serve today.
Community members, veterans, active-duty military personnel, Gold Star families, elected officials and the public are invited to attend the dedication ceremony, which will commemorate the service and commitment of local military members and recognize their contributions to the defense of the United States.
The Global War on Terrorism, which began following the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, has involved generations of American service members in military operations around the world. The Attleboro monument provides a place for reflection, remembrance, and appreciation for the sacrifices made by those who have served during this era.
The dedication ceremony is free and open to the public.

All are welcome to attend tomorrow at 9:00 am.
