We seek to create communities free from violence and exploitation. New Hope works to create communities free from violence and exploitation. We offer emergency and supportive services for women, men and children who are survivors of domestic and sexual violence. We also provide comprehensive prevention education programming, and work with perpetrators to reduce future violence.

Black Indigenous People of Color or BIPOC face higher rates of domestic abuse. 45% of black women, 48% of indigenous women, and 34.4% of Latina women will experience some sort of abuse. Abuse disproportionately affects women in the BIPOC community. Despite the higher rates of abuse, BIPOC women are less likely to seek help due to barriers and fear of discrimination.

Today is Women's Equality Day. Today commemorates the addition of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. However, it also serves as a reminder of the trials and tribulations women still face today, and it serves as a reminder of how far we have come.

In the United States, 1 in 4 women have been affected by domestic violence, and almost 40% of women have experienced sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner compared to 26-28% of men. However, only 20-25% of these incidents are reported to police, and even fewer of those cases result in an arrest.

We often hear the myth that men can not be victims of abuse. However, that is far from the truth. Around 1 in 3 men experience some sort of abuse. While 1 in 6 men experience sexual abuse. This abuse can range from psychological, emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. However, this abuse often goes unreported due to fear of not being taken seriously and the harsh societal stigma surrounding the topic.

According to RAINN, 1 in 9 teenage girls have experienced sexual abuse or assault before the age of 18. Girls between the age of 16-19 are four times more likely to be assaulted than the general population.

All teenagers are at a higher risk of sexual violence due to developmental, social, and cultural factors around them. The concept of "r**e culture," which normalizes sexual violence and victim-blaming, is embedded in media, schools, and social settings. These ideologies shape teens' understandings on consent and relationships and puts this age group at a higher risk.

New Hope supports anyone who has experienced sexual violence, including teens. Our counseling and safety planning services provide information, insight, and support in setting boundaries and breaking societal stigmas around "r**e culture."

According to the Human Rights Campaign, 54% of transgender individuals experience domestic violence in their lifetime. Transgender individuals are 2.2 times more likely to experience intimate partner violence than cisgender individuals.

There are unique barriers that transgender individuals face when searching for support. The risk of rejection and isolation from family and friends is high and there is a lack of support nationwide for transgender survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Some survivors face discrimination from other survivors and fear that law enforcement and agencies may discriminate as well.

1 in 10 adults aged 70 and above experience some sort of abuse in any given year. This is more commonly referred to as elder abuse. Older women are 6 times more likely to experience sexual abuse. 83% of sexual assault cases perpetrated against elders happen in care facilities. Yet elders only make up 5% of all reported sexual assault cases. Perpetrators of abuse are often caregivers, older children, or even spouses.

National Wellness Month also expands to domestic violence and sexual assault survivors as well. Survivors can prioritize their mental, emotional, and physical well-being by reaching out and building healthy support systems.
