Congratulations to two of our ELL educators, Annie Larkin and Penelope Jennewein, who presented at the Annual MATSOL (Massachusetts Teachers of Speakers of Other Languages) Conference in Framingham! Their session, "Effective Writing Instruction for Newcomers and Level 1 ELLs," highlighted current best practices and shared actionable strategies to support ELL students in their writing. They were joined by the Elementary ELL Team and their middle school colleagues.

Real work. Real impact. Our AHS Marketing students are taking on an exciting new project: a complete revamp of the CTE website! Today they kicked things off by Zooming with a rep from Apptegy, the platform that powers our district website, for training and idea sharing. From here, they’ll be meeting weekly with our Director of Educational Technology to share progress, ideas, and feedback. Stay tuned – we can’t wait to see what they create!

During library STEM and coding sessions with Mrs. Schiller, the Technology Coach, and Mrs. Wilton, the library paraprofessional, 4th grade students at Hyman Fine transformed Dash robots into Winter Olympic athletes by programming them to ski through obstacle courses, glide across “ice skating” pathways, and compete in fast-paced hockey challenges.

Using block-based coding, students applied sequencing, debugging, problem-solving, and computational thinking skills as they designed precise movements and strategies for each event. The activities blended creativity and engineering in an engaging, hands-on environment where students collaborated, tested solutions, and refined their code just like real engineers and programmers. The excitement and teamwork throughout the Winter Olympics theme created an immersive learning experience that strengthened both coding confidence and critical thinking skills in a highly motivating way.

As the season continued, the project evolved into “Dash-ketball” during March Madness, where students coded their robots to dribble, pass, and shoot baskets while exploring accuracy, angles, teamwork, and strategic problem-solving through competitive coding challenges. Students explained their work and even showed off their coding skills with Dash-ketball demonstrations at A Night to Discover!

Attleboro Public Schools is committed to staying on the cutting edge of educational technology, and that means learning alongside some of the best educators in the region.
Our team spent the evening at Google’s Cambridge office exploring AI tools like Gemini for Education, NotebookLM, and Lyria, diving into ready-to-use prompts for teachers, AI literacy resources, and best practices for bringing these tools into classrooms in thoughtful, meaningful ways.
As we continue to shape our district’s approach to AI in education, professional learning like this helps us ask the right questions, connect with fellow educators, and bring back ideas that benefit our students and staff.
Excited to keep the momentum going!

Hill Roberts students in Mrs. Wright’s 2nd Grade class worked with Mrs. Delpape, the Technology coach, and used Google Earth to explore the continents, oceans and landforms. They used this information to create their own maps, labeling all the continents and oceans, and adding landmarks. They also personalized their maps by locating and marking the locations of extended family and ancestors. The students loved it and the community members at A Night to Discover did too!

In our next showcase from A Night to Discover 2026, 4th graders at Thacher worked with the art teacher, Mrs. Maglione and the Technology Coach, Miss Keller, on Digital Art Portfolios that celebrate their creativity and voice. Over several months, the students met once a week and used Book Creator to combine art, writing, poetry, and videos. They built digital presentations of their work. Community members loved hearing about how students had fun turning their art into books, showing how their art changed and improved over time, and how they enjoyed writing about their artwork and explaining their ideas.

Here is our first showcase from A Night to Discover 2026! In this project, students in Mrs. Martin’s class at Willett followed the engineering design process to identify a real world third grade classroom problem and design a meaningful solution. They worked with the technology coach Mrs. Schiller, and through collaboration, math, writing, critical thinking, and problem solving, students brainstormed ideas, created prototypes, improved their designs, and brought their solutions to life using 3D printing technology. Students designed and printed custom pencil holders for their desks and headphone wire holders and organizers. Students experienced firsthand how engineers move from identifying a problem to designing, testing, and improving a successful solution. Community members were so impressed by their work and ability to explain how they followed the engineering design process to solve a real life problem in a unique way!
