Esmeralda Soria Ad Aims to Hide Her Soft-on-Crime Record
Merced – Asm. Esmeralda Soria has launched a new ad claiming to be “tough on safety,” despite a two-year record of siding with criminals over victims in Sacramento.
“Families in California are sick and tired of being lied to about crime in our communities,” said Joanna Garcia Rose. “This ad won’t trick voters about Soria’s tepid support of the tough-on-crime Prop. 36, her refusal to stand up for victims in Sacramento, and her history of siding with Gavin Newsom’s pro-criminal policies.”
When Newsom’s “poison pill” scheme threatened Prop. 36 and bipartisan legislation to increase criminal penalties, Soria refused to oppose Newsom’s plan.
When Soria had the opportunity to vote on a bill to deport illegal immigrants convicted of s*x crimes against minors, she refused to support it.
When Soria had the chance to fast-track legislation to crack down on fentanyl dealers, she refused to support that either.
And when the soft-on-crime Assembly Public Safety Committee asked her to water down her bill and make it tougher to hold fentanyl dealers accountable, she accepted the amendments, making it nearly impossible to prove the crimes had been committed.
These are not the actions of someone who is fighting to make our communities safe.
“Esmeralda Soria is a typical politician: she’s soft on crime when in Sacramento, but claims to be ‘tough on safety’ when Election Day is around the corner,” said Garcia Rose. “Voters won’t be fooled. They have a chance to send someone to represent them, fight for safer communities, and stand up for victims instead of criminals.”
