🔥 Firefighter Spotlight: Kourtney Steffensen 🔥
Kourtney joined the department in 2025, driven by a desire to be part of something bigger than herself while building roots in her community for her and her two kids. A full-time customer service employee at Northern Radiator, she balances work, family, and firefighting with a sense of purpose and grit.
Family is at the heart of everything Kourtney does. Her kids love seeing their mom in action—especially when it involves riding in the fire trucks—and she takes pride in showing them what it means to step outside your comfort zone and grow.
Though firefighting wasn’t always on her radar, Kourtney embraced the challenge. Inspired by the strong women she joined alongside, she found mentorship, motivation, and a standard to strive toward. Today, she credits the role with making her stronger, more confident, and more appreciative of life’s everyday moments.
For Kourtney, the most rewarding part of the job is giving back to the community she calls home. She’s passionate about breaking the myth that firefighters need to “have it all figured out” before joining—emphasizing that training, teamwork, and willingness to learn matter most.
When she’s not on a call, you’ll likely find her staying active with cardio, enjoying ice cream, or reaching for a White Monster energy drink. If she could have any superpower? Controlling time—because in this line of work, every second counts.
Her advice? “Go for it. Work hard, don’t be afraid to get a little dirty, and be ready to learn. It’s challenging, but it’s worth it.”
