What a great weekend in our community!

I had the opportunity to watch a few daredevils rappel down The Tioga Hotel during United Way of Merced County’s Over The Edge fundraiser. What an incredible event and a great way to raise money for our community. Because I was only a week out from shoulder surgery, I had to put my own rappelling adventure on hold until next year.

I also had the opportunity to attend Playhouse Merced’s production of Come From Away. What an amazing amount of local talent! The performance was outstanding and I’m looking forward to seeing more of the great productions they have in the works. There are still a few Come From Away shows remaining, so I encourage you to make your reservations.

TRAFFIC ALERT – BUHACH ROAD

If you frequently travel Buhach Road between SR-140 and SP, please plan ahead.

Per Merced County Department of Public Works, construction will take place August 20th through September 28th, with one-way traffic control in the area. Expect delays and give yourself extra time when traveling through the construction zone.

Please be patient with the workers who are out there improving our roads, and whenever possible, consider using an alternate route to help reduce congestion and keep everyone safe.

Roger Wood was an incredible person and an invaluable part of the Atwater and Merced County community. He cared deeply about the people who called this community home and always wanted the very best for Atwater and Merced County.

I’m grateful for the many ways Roger gave back and made a difference over the years. His dedication, kindness, and love for our community will not be forgotten.

Roger, I always enjoyed getting a chance to sit and talk with you, especially at the Fair. You will be missed, but your legacy will live on for generations to come. Thank you for everything you did for our community to make it a better place.

It was a great day visiting two wonderful community events this weekend!

I attended the grand reopening of the Merced Applegate Zoo, where it was exciting to see the new exhibits and updated facilities, especially the Donor Wall in honor of late El Capitan High School and FFA student, Violette Walker.

I also stopped by Castle Family Health Centers’ Community Wellness Day at Castle Airport, where families had access to health screenings, school supplies, and valuable community resources.

Thank you to everyone who organized these events and to the volunteers who continue making Merced County a great place to live, work, and raise a family.

This week, I attended the Merced County Sheriff's Office Christmas in July fundraiser benefiting Operation Christmas Star. Having volunteered to deliver presents to children in past years, I know the joy this program brings to families throughout Merced County. Thank you to everyone who supports this incredible cause!

I also had the opportunity to tour Pacific Gas and Electric Company’s Diablo Canyon Power Plant with City of Atwater Mayor Nelson and Merced County Supervisor Pacheco, where we saw firsthand how a significant portion of California’s electricity is generated.
