It was a hot, busy and long day today for your fire fighters. This fire got into the trees and caused some havoc. Thanks to Luke Schroeder for bringing a disc so quickly, Franklin Farms for supplying us with water, CHS for bringing a tanker of water, Rawlins County Rural Fire District #1 for the mutual aide and answering a 2nd fire page and thanks to RFD #3 for answering our 3rd fire page. Rawlins County is blessed with 3 amazing fire departments that drop everything when the tones go off. Also, a HUGE THANK YOU to each and every employer that allows us to leave instantly when the tones go off....you employers are the MVP's!!!!! If we missed anybody that gave assistance we apologize!!!

With the winter storm watch that was issued, we encourage everyone to get prepared... should the storm happen

- Make sure you have enough prescription medication, including oxygen.

- Keep phones charged

- Have non perishable food and snacks, can opener, flashlights, and plenty of water on hand in case of power outage.

- Keep plenty of blankets and warm clothing available

-Prepare pets and livestock for very cold wind chills, and blowing snow

If traveling

- Plan your route, check forecasts, and road conditions before leaving. Make sure someone knows your plans and time of arrival.

- Keep warm clothes and blankets in vehicle along with winter emergency kit, snacks, and water.

- Keep phone charged

- Don't drive on closed roads (county roads are not an option to "get around barricades" if highways are bad, county roads will be much worse.) Getting your vehicle pulled out when stuck can be very costly.

Wednesday members of RFD #2 went to Oberlin and had the privilege of doing active shooting training. It was a great training, lots was learned and it was a great opportunity to work with other departments and agencies. Thanks to Decatur County Rural Fire, Decatur County EMS and Decatur County Emergency Management for this opportunity!!!!
