From Letters to Words!

This month, we’re working with the letters Bb, Gg, and Rr, and our young learners are putting their phonics skills into practice!

We’re strengthening letter recognition, beginning sounds, blending, and reading simple consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) words like red, run, bat, bed, bug, and rug.

Each word they sound out is another step toward becoming a confident, independent reader!

Strong reading skills begin with strong foundations!

What does the first 45 minutes of our school day look like?

Between 8:00 and 9:00, as children arrive, they are free to choose from the learning areas and materials available in my classroom. I do not require everyone to sit down and complete the same activity first thing in the morning.

But this is not simply “free play.”

I have taught the children how to use the materials, how to work in our classroom, and how to make productive choices. As long as they are using the space appropriately, they are encouraged to decide where they want to begin.

And I love seeing what they choose.

One child picked up markers and began writing numbers simply because he loves to write them. Writing is something I have intentionally taught and practiced with him, and now he chooses to use that skill on his own.

Another child chose to color. Others built with LEGO bricks and linking cubes, experimented with construction, worked alongside friends, or chose activities independently.

No one was told, “You have to practice numbers right now.”
No one was told, “You have to build something.”

They had choices, but they also had the skills, materials, expectations, and environment that made those choices meaningful.

This is what intentional learning can look like.

I teach the skills.
I prepare the environment.
I provide worthwhile choices.
And then I give children opportunities to use what they know.

That is how I begin our mornings at KinderTime Academy—calm, purposeful, independent, and ready to learn.

Intentional learning in action—every space, material, and activity is thoughtfully chosen to invite children to explore, build, create, and grow with purpose.

Welcome to Kinder Time Academy!

Kinder Time Academy provides an intentional learning environment for children ages 3–6, designed to help young children build strong early academic skills, confidence, independence, and curiosity.

Our days include Morning Meeting, Literacy & Language, Early Writing, Life Science & Math experiences, sensory learning, and carefully planned opportunities for children to practice new skills in meaningful ways each day.

Every part of the day has a purpose. Activities are intentionally selected to support early learning while giving children opportunities to explore, create, problem-solve, and grow.
