For 16 years, Hair Illusions Salon has served the Aubrey community with heart, dedication, and hometown pride. When Darla Woods opened the salon in April 2010, her vision was simple: to create a welcoming space where neighbors could feel right at home. Over the years, Hair Illusions Salon has grown into a beloved local staple.

As an Aubrey native, Darla’s love for the community is evident in every aspect of her business. Many may not know that Darla travels to market to hand‑select unique items thoughtfully curated for the salon, adding a special touch you won’t find anywhere else.

Pictured here are stylists Tamara and Kimmie who are just 2 of the several members of the Hair Illusions team, which Darla credits for the salon’s success. “The team’s talent, warmth, and commitment to delivering an amazing experience for every guest have played a vital role in the salon’s continued growth and longevity.”

Dallas Business Journal hosted the Denton County Growth Summit this morning at the UNT Hub Club at DATCU Stadium, where keynote speakers highlighted upcoming projects driving Denton County forward. The Aubrey MDD Board President, Holly Drew, and Executive Director, Christine Gossett, attended to learn more about the development of new residential communities and the workforce needs of the area’s major employers.

Denton County’s major employers and university leaders also outlined the concrete steps they’re taking to prepare today’s students and workers for the jobs of the future, and the jobs in the growing industries across Denton County.

While growth has its challenges, it also brings opportunities for business development and jobs across the county.

The North Texas Fair and Rodeo (NTFR) is a special event that has taken place in northern Denton County for nearly 100 years! Through its entertainment, events, and shows, the NTFR truly captures the rural heritage that is still a part of so many communities around here. Whether you are new to the Aubrey area or grew up here, you likely know about the upcoming NTFR just down the road. But, if you are new to attending the fair and want to go check out what all the excitement is about, here are some helpful “first-timer” tips from the NTFR page below.

A few tips for our first timers!

1. Buy your ticket(s) in advance.
2. Park in our remote lots and catch the shuttle both Saturdays.
3. Check the daily schedule beforehand, but leave room for unplanned fun. We have tons to enjoy here at the fair.
4. Wear comfortable shoes.
5. Come hungry.
6. Beat the heat by taking advantage of our air-conditioned buildings, all of our covered tent space and the many Portacools and fans located throughout the fairgrounds.
7. Take the photos.

Sharing some good news 🎉for those who have waited for the re-opening of Dos Mezclas Restaurant in Downtown Aubrey, 202 S. Main Street - the restaurant is OPEN again. The temporary closure for an expansion and remodel was worth the wait. Congrats to Dos Mezclas on your business expansion!

The Aubrey MDD recently met with Star Cleaners to congratulate them on 20 years in business in Aubrey. In 2006, owners Jay Shah and Sanjay Patel expanded their dry‑cleaning business in Denton to include an Aubrey location. The Aubrey store offers dependable garment care, leather cleaning, and cleaning for rugs, horse blankets, and comforters, along with a new wash‑and‑fold service.

Their local team includes two customer service specialists, including Patricia, pictured here. Jay’s daughter, Krishma, also helps keep operations running smoothly across both locations. Owner, Jay, says Aubrey’s small‑town feel and the relationships built with customers make serving the community truly meaningful.

Star Cleaners is located at 716 S. US Hwy. 377 and is open Mon–Fri 7 am - 7 pm, and Sat 9 am - 5 pm.
