*******MEDIA RELEASE*******

April 22, 2026, 5:00 p.m.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

On April 20, 2026, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers with the Aubrey Police Department were dispatched to the 12100 block of Thoroughbred Drive in Providence Village, Texas, in response to a report of Deadly Conduct. A male caller contacted 911 and stated that he was holding two female hostages, was in possession of weapons, an incendiary device, cameras, and threatened to shoot the victims if officers approached. The caller then disconnected and did not respond to subsequent contact attempts. Upon arrival, officers observed a broken window on the side of the residence and immediately established a perimeter.

Officers made multiple unsuccessful attempts to reestablish contact with the caller, who was later identified as Michael David Miller. One of the victims was identified as Astasia Rebhan, white female, 49 years of age. The Aubrey Police Department had previously arrested Miller on March 18, 2026, for Aggravated Assault stemming from an incident at the same residence involving Astasia Rebhan. Following that arrest, Miller was released on April 11, 2026, on a $50,000 bond, and a Protective Order had been issued for Astasia, her residence, and her juvenile daughter.

Given the nature of the call and the information provided, the Aubrey Police Department activated its Special Operations Response Team and secured the scene. At approximately 1:16 a.m., a juvenile female exited the residence and was safely taken into protective custody. She confirmed that the suspect was Michael Miller and that her mother, Astasia, remained inside the residence as a hostage. The juvenile further reported that Miller was armed with multiple fi****ms and possessed an incendiary device described as a “flamethrower.” Based on this information, officers began evacuating nearby residences as a precaution.

The Denton Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team was requested and responded to the scene, providing additional security and deploying resources to assist with the safe resolution of the incident. Hostage Negotiators made repeated attempts to establish communication with Miller in an effort to secure the release of the victim.

Miller refused to negotiate and indicated a desire to provoke a “su***de by cop” scenario.

After approximately nine hours of continued efforts, additional assistance was requested from the McKinney Police Department SWAT, who responded and assumed operational command. During this time, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) offered assistance and arrived on scene at approximately 12:30 p.m. The FBI coordinated with McKinney SWAT to further enhance operations, including deploying additional Hostage Negotiators and integrating their Hostage Rescue Team.

Negotiation efforts continued throughout the day and into the night; however, Miller remained uncooperative. After an extended period without communication, power to the residence was disconnected. The Hostage Rescue Team subsequently made entry into the residence, successfully rescued Astasia and arrested Miller.
Michael David Miller, white male 05.28.1968, was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Restraint, Aggravated Kidnapping, Burglary of a Habitation, and Violation of Bond/Protective Order. He is currently being held at the Denton County Sheriff’s Office Jail without bond on two charges and 4.5-million-dollar bond on the others. Additional charges are anticipated as the investigation continues.

The Aubrey Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to our officers and the assisting agencies that provided personnel and critical resources, including the Cross Roads Police Department, Pilot Point Police Department, Oak Point Police Department, Krugerville Police Department, Aubrey Fire Department Denton Police Department, Denton County Sheriff’s Office, McKinney Police Department, Prosper Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Fort Worth Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety and the Plano Police Department. A special thank you to the Denton County Sheriff’s Office Communications team. These partnerships were instrumental in ensuring the safe rescue of the victim and the successful resolution of this incident.

We also extend our gratitude to our community for their patience, support, and generosity during this 26-hour incident. Community members provided food and beverages to officers on scene, helping ensure personnel remained supported throughout the operation.

********Update 1:30 AM (April 22nd)*********
At approximately 1230AM the FBI HRT ( Hostage Rescue Team) made entry into the residence where they safely rescued the hostage and took the suspect into custody. The suspect was transported to the Denton County Sheriff’s Office jail where he was booked for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon as well as other criminal charges. The shelter in place order is lifted and residents are able to return to their homes.

The victim was evaluated on scene by the Aubrey Fire Department and later transported to a local medical facility for further evaluation.

The Aubrey Police Department Criminal Investigation Division will conduct a thorough search of the residence pursuant to a search warrant. You may see activity into the early morning hours in reference to this search by CID.

******Update as of 8:00PM******

******UPDATE around 6AM**********

On April 20, 2026 at approximately 11:30 p.m. officers with the Aubrey Police Department were dispatched to the 12100 block of Thoroughbred Drive in Providence Village, Texas in reference to a Deadly Conduct call for service. A male caller contacted 911 and advised he had two female hostages and weapons. The male caller advised he would shoot the women if officers approached. He then disconnected the call and would not answer follow-up attempts. Officers arrived onscene and found a broken window on the side of the residence and set up a perimeter. Multiple attempts to reestablish contact with the male caller were unsuccessful. Due to the call type and information at hand we activated our Special Operations Response Team. At approximately 1:16 a.m. a juvenile female was released and exited the residence where she provided information that prompted us to call for additional resources. Denton Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team arrived and are currently assisting with negotiations. This incident stems from a domestic relationship where the suspect and victim are known by each other. This remains an active scene.
