In Muckleshoot Language (bəqəlšuɫucid), this time of year is known as the time of digging. With the return of warmer weather comes the beautiful blossoms of the camas flower and the opportunity to dig their bulbs, a traditional staple food of our people.

60 years ago today, Muckleshoot Tribal Members came together to demand recognition of our treaty-protected fishing rights. The Muckleshoot Treaty Trek sparked the movement that led to the Boldt Decision, a turning point in the fight for tribal sovereignty. On this milestone anniversary, we honor those who fought for our rights as well as those who are continuing to protect them for the future.

Muckleshoot youth and families gathered today to celebrate the opening of the Muckleshoot Sport Court at South Wind Park, created through a partnership between the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe and One Roof Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Seattle Kraken.

“Our people have worked hard to create opportunities for future generations, and projects like this show how far Muckleshoot has come. This new sport court creates a place where our youth can stay active, come together and continue building a strong future for our community.” - Vice Chairman John Daniels Jr.

Yesterday, members of the Muckleshoot Tribal Council met with former Secretary of the Interior, Deb Haaland. They learned more about her campaign for Governor of New Mexico and her continued advocacy for Tribal Nations and Native communities. Conversations like these highlight the importance of Native voices in leadership and government decision-making at every level.

This past Saturday, Muckleshoot Tribal Members took to the field at T-Mobile Park during our Mariners Field Day! We are proud of our continued partnership with the Seattle Mariners and happy to have this joyful opportunity to celebrate that partnership with our youth and families.

We’re also happy to have added to this experience by including mindful spaces at this event. By including a sensory friendly space for Autistic and Neurodivergent relatives, we’re striving to ensure that all families are welcome to participate and celebrate in this partnership.
