❄️ Winter Storm Preparedness: Please Plan Ahead ❄️

A period of very cold temperatures and significant snowfall is expected this weekend, Auburn. City crews are preparing, and we ask residents to take a few steps now to stay safe and help things run smoothly:

Before the storm:
* Stock up on essentials (food, medications, pet supplies).
* Check your heating source and make sure vents are clear.
* Charge phones and devices in case of power outages.
* Bring pets indoors and check on neighbors.

During the storm:
* Avoid unnecessary travel once snow begins - just stay home.
* Give plow trucks plenty of space and be patient.
* Dress in layers and limit time outdoors in extreme cold.
* Watch closely for signs of hypothermia, frostbite, or CO2 poisoning. Learn more: https://www.maine.gov/dhhs/mecdc/healthy-living/health-and-safety/climate-and-health/cold-related-illness
* If needed, visit the 24-hour Emergency Warming Center at 70 Horton Street in Lewiston.

After the storm:
* Use caution when shoveling; take breaks and know your limits.
* Keep hydrants and vents clear of snow if you’re able.
* Watch for updates from the City regarding closures and service updates.

Updates will be shared here as conditions change. To get city alerts via text or email, visit: https://www.auburnmaine.gov/enotify/index.php and select the "ALERTS" category.
