Placer County Probation Department

Placer County Probation Department The Probation Department enhances public safety through supervision and reintegration of clients.

The Probation Department is an integral part of Placer County’s public safety structure, charged with operating the Juvenile Detention Facility (JDF) and the investigation and preparation of social history reports for both juvenile and adult clients at the direction of the Placer County Superior Courts. Probation supervises adult and juvenile clients, granted probation by the Courts, as well as Ma

ndatory Supervision clients and Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) clients who have recently been released from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). Clients are held accountable to their terms and conditions of release and may participate in our probation programs that include Alternative Sentencing Mobile Work Crew, Placer County ReEntry Program (PREP), and Prop 47 ACTion Team and many other programs designed to change behavior.

Members of the Placer County Probation Department were honored to join the Placer County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement partners in this year's Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Together, participants carried the Flame of Hope in support of Special Olympics Northern California and the incredible athletes who inspire us through their determination, courage, and achievements.

As Guardians of the Flame, law enforcement officers and public safety professionals help carry a message of hope, dignity, and support for Special Olympics athletes. The Law Enforcement Torch Run is a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when communities come together to support these incredible athletes.

We are proud to stand alongside our public safety partners in support of Special Olympics and the athletes who continue to inspire us every day.

On May 12, 2026, the Board of Supervisors officially approved the newest member of the Placer County Probation Department family, Chance! 🐾

Chance is a 7-month-old Golden Retriever currently training twice a week with All Stage Canine Development and will soon begin rotating through our work locations to provide support and engagement. Officer Lauren Maben will serve as Chance’s primary handler.

Chance will engage with clients, spend time at the Juvenile Detention Facility, and participate in community events as a positive and supportive presence for both staff and clients alike.

This program would not have been possible without the support and generosity of our community partners. Thank you to All Stage Canine Development, Miranda,
Crème Brulée Goldens owners Yvette and Ed for donating Chance, and Tuff Fluff Dogs and Unee for helping care for and support Chance throughout the development of the program.

We are also grateful to the agencies and staff who took the time to answer questions, share information, and provide guidance about their own support dog programs:
City of Roseville, California Police Department - Social Services Practitioner CJ Smith and Officer Gaines
Folsom Police Department – Officer Sears
Placer County District Attorney's Office – Jessica Waterford
