Huge congratulations to PRCA East Alabama’s very own Sara Custer! 👏✨

Sara and Auburn Parks and Rec were recently honored with the Sustaining Outreach Partnership Award at the Auburn University Outreach Engaged Scholarship Symposium.

Dr. Royrickers Cook, Vice President of University Outreach and Associate Provost, presented Sara with the award during the celebration at the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center.

A special THANK YOU to Mark Bransby, Senior Application Systems Analyst at Auburn University, for speaking at our July PRCA East Alabama meeting! 👏

Digital accessibility is evolving, and Mark expertly walked us through the DOJ’s recently updated Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Title II requirements.
From digital publishing and public sector communications to university and business outreach, Mark shared invaluable, practical insights into how these mandates impact our industry. Our chapter left with a clear understanding of exactly what PR pros need to keep in mind to produce compliant, inclusive, and accessible content. 💻✨

Happy from PRCA East Alabama! 📱🎉

Emojis are more than just fun additions to a group chat—they are powerful tools in a public relations strategy. When used thoughtfully, they can humanize a brand, increase engagement, and communicate tone in an instant.

Here is how PR professionals can use emojis strategically to elevate their messaging:
1️⃣ Match the Brand Voice: Make sure the emojis you choose align with your client’s or organization’s identity. A corporate finance firm might stick to 📊, 📈, or 🤝, while a local lifestyle brand can play with ✨, 🛍️, or 🤩.
2️⃣ Break Up Heavy Text: Use emojis as bullet points or visual breaks to make long press updates, newsletters, or social media captions much easier to scan.
3️⃣ Drive Action: Emojis act as excellent visual cues for a Call to Action (CTA). Using a ⬇️ or 👉 to point toward a link naturally draws the reader’s eye and can boost click-through rates.
4️⃣ Know Your Audience (and the Context): Emojis have different meanings across generations and cultures. Always double-check that the symbol you are using doesn’t have an unintended alternative meaning before hitting publish!

Please join us in congratulating Travis, Allison and Christian on completing leadership programs recently.

Travis Harrison with Visit Auburn-Opelika recently graduated from both the Alabama Leadership Initiative (ALI) Class VIII and Leadership Lee County. Adding to this impressive feat, his peers recognized his impact by selecting him as a Class Board Member for LLC!

Allison Duke with the Opelika Police Department also completed Leadership Lee County but missed graduation due to a trip out west.

Christian Baker with East Alabama Health graduated from the Opelika 20 Under 40 Program! This recognition highlights Christian’s role as a rising star and a vital voice in the future of our local business landscape.

We are honored to have such high-caliber leaders steering our chapter.
