While enjoying a variety of activities like kickball, capture the flag, tug of war and water slides, the free week long D.A.R.E. (Drug and Alcohol Resistance Education) summer camp is geared toward fifth-graders, building upon the student's 10-week D.A.R.E. The event fosters a positive relationship with police and firefighters, demonstrating that you can have a good time without resorting to drugs
and violence. Numerous volunteers, including officers from the Auburn Police and Fire Divisions, retired teachers and Citizens’ Public Safety Academy Alumni help with the D.A.R.E.camp each summer. The students are treated to demonstrations by the Lee County Swat Team, Auburn Police and Auburn Fire Divisions. The hope is campers will become friends before they enter middle school (6th grade) and that the values they learn will last a lifetime. Registration for this event is limited to Auburn City Schools and Lee-Scott Academy students. Camp is free, but children are asked to bring canned goods, which will be donated to the East Alabama Food Bank.
