Village Friends

Village Friends VFVV is a 501c3 non-profit organization that provides a support system to help subscribers 60+ in the Auburn/Opelika area to live independently.

Village Friends Village Values (VFVV) is a local, self-governing, nonprofit (503c) organization that offers subscribers 60 and older in the Auburn-Opelika area a support system that helps them remain in their own homes for as long as possible. To this end, specific services are provided by vetted volunteers. VFVV also functions as a source of referrals to trusted contractors. VFVV is funded by sub

scriber fees and donations. VFVV originated with a 2011 OLLI @ Auburn course led by Joanna Hoit and Mary Burkhart, who introduced the "Village concept" to the class during the course. At the end of the course, an advisory committee was formed, culminating in the creation of Village Friends Village Values. Under the able guidance of the founding officers, shown at left, an initial organizational infrastructure was developed, membership increased, and an application for non-profit status was submitted. In 2014, VFVV received its federal non-profit designation, a new slate of officers was elected, and VFVV began providing services to its subscribers

✨ Meet the Village Friends Board ✨

With 34 years of experience across the financial services and real estate industries, Christy Truitt currently serves as a private banking officer for ServisFirst Bank in Auburn. A West Alabama native originally from Demopolis, Christy earned her degree from Auburn University before returning to make Lee County her home in 2000.

Beyond finance, Christy is deeply invested in the growth and culture of East Alabama. She serves as an Ambassador for the Opelika Chamber of Commerce and a Diplomat for the Auburn Chamber of Commerce. A passionate writer, Christy has been a feature writer and copy editor for East Alabama Living Magazine for nearly 22 years and is an award-winning novelist with five published books of fiction.

Family is at the heart of everything she does. Christy is the proud mom of Abby (Zach), Billy (Rose), and Trent, and a doting grandmother to Elouise “Weezie.” When not working or writing, she can usually be found hanging out with her best friend, Hank—a 70-pound four-legged "lapdog."

Help us welcome Christy!
