Yesterday was the Auburn Fire Department Junior fire academy! These young cadets were in the 5th - 9th grade. The cadets started their day with PT, and team building skills. Then broke into groups and learned about Medical Emergencys ( CPR, Bleeding control, splinting fractures and spinal immobilization), how to operate a fire extinguisher and extinguishing an actual fire, learned the mechanical advantages rope rescue and participated in using a 3:1 and 5:1 haul system, learned multiple rescue drags and carries, ran an obstacle course with hose drags, worked with advancing a charged hose line, and the 8th and 9th grade cadets donned fire gear and a SCBA and participated in a room search in with simulated smoke with little to no visibility.

Every year we are amazed what these young men and weman are willing to try and what the accomplish! At the end of the academy all cadets participated in a graduation ceremony!

The District would like to thank all.our volunteers for giving up their Saturday to spend it at the Firehouse so we are able to do this.
