What a delightful surprise I experienced this morning!
While attending to paperwork, I was greeted by a faint knock on the station's back door.

To my joy, it was my great-nephew, Kason O'Connor, and his father, Mathew, who had stopped by to explore the Park out back but was unable and then the Big Green Fire Trucks.
Kasson's eyes lit up as he made a beeline for Grandpa's locker, retrieved the helmet, and proudly put it on, exclaiming, 'See, Daddy, I'm going to be a fireman too!'

Moments like these remind us of the importance of nurturing the next generation's curiosity and passion for the fire service.

As they learn about fire safety and explore the station, they're empowered to take charge and make a difference.
If you're visiting the playground nearby and notice someone at the station, don't hesitate to drop by and request a tour – we'd be delighted to share our world with you.
This encounter has brightened my day and highlighted the significance of inspiring young minds, making my great nephew's day all the more special.
Have a great day Kason

Remember!!!!!!!
If you see or hear Red Light and sirens, pull over as soon a safely possible.
Don’t try and race us, or pull over on the top of a hill or in the middle of a sharp curve.

Stay safe out there! Look out for others.

The burn ban may be over, but fire safety doesn’t stop here.
As you return to outdoor burning, it’s important to follow safe burning habits to protect your home, your neighbors, and our community.
** Always check the weather before you burn and avoid lighting fires on windy or dry days when embers can easily spread.
** Keep your fires small and manageable, and only burn clean, natural materials—never trash, plastics, or treated wood.
** Stay with your fire at all times and make sure you have water, a hose, and basic tools nearby in case conditions change.
** Clear away dry leaves and brush from the area around your burn site to reduce the risk of accidental spread.
** When you’re done, fully extinguish the fire by soaking it with water, stirring the ashes, and repeating the process until everything is cool to the touch.
** And as always, follow all local regulations and seasonal guidelines.

Even though the ban has ended, responsible burning helps prevent brush fires and keeps our first responders safe. Let’s all do our part to keep Cayuga County fire‑safe year‑round.
